Question about UV lighting

Thread Starter
Do both the tubing (or fluid) and the lights need to be the same color UV? What if I have blue UV tubing and purple UV lights?

What if I have white UV tubing and a blue UV light or just the opposite (Blue UV tubing with a white UV light)?

One reason I ask this is because I am looking at getting LED UV lights, but apparently the only color they have is purple for LED UV's.
Another reason was that if I could go with white fluid/tubing then I could easily change the color of the UV easily enough.

As a side note if anyone knows of any place that makes or sells UV LEDs of different colors then please let me know....

I want to have the option to light up my case but have it so it looks like only the tubing and associated parts are lit up. I already have a RGB LED set built into my case (Phantom 820) but I am looking for an additional sci fi look. I was thinking of going with the individual UV LED light offered by adaFruit here and only placing the individual lights throughout my case.

FYI, My system is in my sig.

Thanks in advance!

UV lights don't actually have a visible color, although they appear purple. The light they emit is technically out of the visible spectrum. My darkside UV LED strip makes my case purple inside though lol. But i have a UV cold cathode that is purple itself, but puts off no light. Here are some pics:

There's kind of a faint purple glow, the camera doesn't really do it justice. I'm using UV Blue fluid with blue Primochill tubing.

Me and my cheeky smile, Fam thought watercooled PC was neat and wanted a pic lol. There's kind of a faint purple glow being cast over my desk if you can tell.

That is what I thought or partially remember from my school days gone by many years ago. But with all the different color UV lights I was thinking there was more to the whole PC lighting thing that just a UV glow. Your case look good. I really do not see any purple as even the glow on the desk looks bluish.
I am thinking of getting the UV LED strip for around the edges and running some individual UV LED lights for the center of the case, that way I have more even coverage throughout the case.
I just need to figure out how many individual lights I need and what I need to connect them to a controller (hopefully to the LED strip so I can control them all at once).

Which UV LED strip did you get?

Darkside glow purple because they are very overpowered. I use darkside and they work great for UV but if you are doing UV cooling with clear tubes cold cathode works better. But be warned cold cathodes are junk. You may go through 4 -5 a year.

Cold cathode x2 , EK UV Blue coolant, clear tubing

Darkside LED UV x5, EK UV Blue coolant, clear tubing

Darkside LED UV x5, EK UV BLUE coolant, EK UV Blue tubing

3 different looks and setups.
You just gotta pick what look you are going for.

Thanks! It's a Darkside UV LED Strip from Performance PC's. Yeah it's hard to see the glow from the pictures, @funfordcobra captured it much better. And holy cow that first picture looks good! I can't eve see the cathodes, where are they? My main problem with them is how hard they were to hide, I wanted that kind of "unearthly glow" like you have but I couldn't find a good place to stick mine where they weren't ruining the effect for me. I tried dimming my LED strip, but then the tubes didn't glow as much :/ Looks like I'm here for a lesson too lol biggrin.gif

I am really hoping to get all my cooling and lighting stuff together if not before then during the Christmas/New Year holidays. I think my PC will be down like at least two days while I install all of this and get it working correctly.

So the lesson learned is dimmers don't work real well with UV lights....... thanks for the info.

That looks awesome! Though I can see some heavy purple glow from the 2nd and 3rd pics. All in all you guys convinced me to go with the UV LEDs. I am hoping this will look awesome when I am finished.
