Added a usb 3.0 card to older system getting power warnings

Ok so working on my step dads rig, its a bit older, he wants to have USB 3.0's.

So I picked up a pcie x1 slot usb3.0 card, with 2x external usb 3.0's and an internal header. Then I also added a 3.5 bad device that plugs into the header and adds 4 more to the front. It doesn't do anything when I plug something in for a few seconds then it tells me something has exceeded the power output of a usb drive and kills the 3.0 slots(all the standard ones on the board are fine). I have all the drivers installed and correctly, I am a bit lost on this.

AMD 455 x3
4x2 gb sticks gskill ddr3 ram
GIGABYTE GA-880GM-UD2H
Crucial M500 1tb ssd
Window 10(although same issue with Win7 home 64bit)
500W Antec Earthwatts psu

USB 3.0 devices can use a lot more power than USB 2.0, hence USB 3.0 ports should supply that extra power.
Likely the USB card you bought can't handle the multiple USB 3.0 ports you've added.
How does it work with just it's own 2X ports?

You can check USB power usage in Windows Device Manager, But I don't know if it will read the ports on an add in card. If not you could plug your USB 3.0 device(s) into an onboard USB 2.0 port and see how much they use. When you know that, compare it to the add in cards specs for power. If it simply won't supply the power you need for all your devices at the same time, then a powered USB 3.0 hub (not very expensive) connected to one of the add in card's ports will.

I was only plugging a 2gb usb 2.0 flash drive for testing. The card has its own sata power connector the front panel uses molex or sata power and Ihave molex in right now.

Wow. Looks like there should be plenty of power there.

Bad cable somewhere?
Try re-seating the card?
Was there any software that came with that stuff?
How about something in the BIOS?

Bad cable somewhere? Possible, need to reseat everything, just was hoping for a simple answer as its a cheap junk case and a nightmare to work on.
Try re-seating the card? Did do that.
Was there any software that came with that stuff? Just a mini-driver disc straight from china with no online drivers I can find.
How about something in the BIOS? Nothing that I have found, tried changing legacy settings and anything with usb or pciex with no effect.

Legacy, just for your information, makes the USB ports available right after post, before Windows boots.

I actually did not know that.

BTW the solution ended up being on the pci-e card a piece of plastic on the SATA power connector from manufacturing, used a pocket knife to remove it and everything now works beautifully.

Well, now you do.

Isn't it always "something". Nice work.
