Its all in fun to me biggrin.gif, its really just a compliment to me that people think I have to fake my settings to achieve 50-60 FPS @ 1440P rolleyes.gif on GTA:V

It clearly shows how underestimated a 290/290X is, because people go by old benchmarks and bought off bias websites for there benchmarks.

It's one thing to say you get 60fps on 1440p at playable settings. It's another to state you're getting 60 fps on Ultra settings with 2xmsaa on 1440p with a stock clocked 290x. I've already proved that you clearly are not. You have half a dozen settings cranked down. That's all my argument was based on. Still waiting for you to adjust the settings accordingly and report back with another video.

Yea, that's my issue as well. It's not Ultra settings. It just isn't. It's a mix of normal, high, and very high settings. I really am unsure where you're getting "ultra" from.

@ ImJJames, I'm all for you having an excellent video card (and a 290X is a great video card), but your claims are quite out there. Just bring it down to earth and admit that you're using high settings @ 1440P. It yields playable settings (although I prefer GTA V @ 60 FPS, but to each their own), so it's not bad. My GTX 780 definitely cannot match the performance of an R9 290X, but I will not claim that it can play Ultra settings @ 1440P. However, my GTX 780 does very well @ 1920x1200. thumb.gif

First you agreed with a poster that my video is faked and was 1080P all along, now its because "Half a dozen settings cranked down".. you clearly have not watched the video.

I won't be posting another video, you can post a video though with same settings, would love to see a 980TI do double the FPS I achieve which one of you 980TI users have claimed can achieve STOCK.

https://www.techpowerup.com/gpudb/2734/radeon-r9-380.html

The gtx 960 takes up 227mm2 and r9 380 is thus 61% larger or 366/227 = 61.2%. The use of a cut chip simply increases the amount of usable candidates, but doesn't make the chip any smaller. The gtx 960 being a smaller chip gives it naturally more usable candidates since defects are more isolated. This means the gtx 960 is substantially easier to produce and cheaper to make, particularly with Nvidia's less aggressive transistor density.

Also AMD still not selling 380x has more to do with an exclusitivity contract or bad yields, either do not contribute to your argument.

Just look at AMD plummeting margins and it should be clear as day that AMD is making little no money on all their products. AMD margins tanked after maxwell was released. AMD gross margins shrank another 2% recently which is odd considering that the price of their whole graphic lineup swelled beside the r9 380 series.

What makes AMD job more difficult from selling a 366mm2 GPU card and selling it at a profit is the fact that they are not the only one that needs to make money. What about the boardmakers cost and cut, What about neweggs or the distributers cut, the cost for the logistics to get the shipment to a consumer hands. With all this taken into account, I would be shocked to see AMD make really any money. The never settle game bundle has been one of the best selling point for AMD cards and has not been updated with newer games. And this is likely due to AMD tightening margins and poor cash flow.

These hundred million dollar loses are coming from selling products too cheap.

Your argument started off on performance, so you're wrong on that count. As for telling me that those chips aren't cut down, well yeah they are making money for AMD in laptops and with apple. The tonga line in PC is an after thought and not something they came up with to compete with 960. I hope this is clear to you now.

The margins were mostly lost on Hawaii chips with Maxwell's release. And even that is up with 390/390X series.

They went 20% margins on consoles, if you're telling me that they are doing less on graphics cards let alone in negative, then you're laughably wrong.

Welp, you just must have a magical 290x considering mine doesn't get the frame rates you claimed at the settings you claim, nor does it show similar vram usage for the settings you claim. Don't think anyone is trying to be argumentative here, but it's not like the card is rare and no one has tested it on this game before.. so it's a bit alarming when all other benches show differently than what you claim, and you have someone like me with a nearly identical (faster cpu clocks, 16gb of faster memory vs 8gb, same OS, etc) setup not getting the frames you claim, either.

PEBCAK

How about showing us a screenshot of your VIDEO SETTINGS identical to mine instead of all these "hearsay".
