Most likely the latter, try tightening down the Noctua a little more to the side where the tim heaped up.

the screws are designed to "stop" once tightened. So i have to loosen the right side. Did a new run and got slightly better temps. 69-73 now. Still far from the 61 reviewed. ill keep at it.

This is a head scratcher. You should be getting lots of open air practically because the cooler is only ~40cm tall, and that leaves around 50 and 60mm between it and the PSU. I am using this same cooler but it's on a G3258 Pentium at 4Ghz so load temps are likely to be different. My idle temps are just somewhat less than in that review, in the upper 30's.

Try spreading the Tim over the entire IHS. Every time I hear such od things I always think that something isn't right with either the IHS or the cooler base. Check if either of them is to concave. Some people achieve better temp wit lapping if there is a problem with that.

Seeing these temps I'm questioning if I should just get the Asus 4GB 960 instead of a 970 as it produces around 40-50 Watts less heat under load. That's a lot less heat to deal with leaving my 4790K much much better off. There's no way I am laying my Osmi down on its side, that's just silly looking no offense smile.gif

There are no itx 960 with 4gb as far as I know anyways. I'm looking into a way to just extend the pedestal a little and extend the frame to give more air. I still want it to sit on the pedestal but the extra ~10 degrees isn't worth it to me. She's just fine on its side to me.

Now as for the cpu, I picked this board up second hand and while it was in great condition, he had a huge Zalman cooler on it while it was just sitting in storage. There's more than likely some warping. I'm now thinking the left side is the problem not the right having too much pressure. I think the left side isn't making enough if any contact due to the bend in the board. I'll troubleshoot when I get home tonight.

Oh and glad to see another osmi owner madpacket smile.gif

Well, clearly there is one, as Madpacket is thinking of getting one !

It's just a few dollars more than the 2 GB version ( that I have )....

dunx

P.S. Asus GTX960-MOC-4GD5 or the Gigabyte GV-N960IXOC-4GD

How much room is there between the top of the case and PSU? The new Silverstone AIO coolers have 37mm combined thickness due to their skinny rads and fans. I was wondering if one of those could fit in there.

The psu isn't the issue. AIOs will hit the power switch and most likely heat sinks depending on the motherboard. Now that I think of it, I'm lucky I didn't buy the p8z77-I with that daughter board. It would block the fan entirely. I'll look into MAYBE a cooler like that Resorator 3. A radial 120 may work if u center it but the fan is actually offset on top. It's pushed all the way to the back wall.

Even if the board is warped It should pull reasonably flat once in the case? I always spread the TIM over the entire IHS using an old credit/bank card. Try to get it reasonably flat. I never rely on heatsink pressire to spread it, just not accurate enough, to many variables..
