I'm in a real pickle here. Insight anyone?

Hey guys and gals, I'll cut straight to it. I am getting my FX 4100 sold this week but I am really stuck on whether to stay with AM3+ or cut my loses and move to intel.

I've have my MB and CPU for about 2 1/2 or 3 years. My main concern is, how much life does my motherboard really have again. What if I was to buy a 8320/50 and a few months down the line it suddenly dies or starts showing signs of dying. Here is the math I checked.

AMD now: $170 for 8350 and possibly $110 for a UD3...IF my board goes.

INTEL now: $225 for the 4690k and ASUS z97A $140 on amazon I believe.

Either way the AMD set up is cheaper. Now I'm not broke I can buy the intel setup, hell I can even by into the X99 system if I wanted but I do find satisfaction in taking something "normal" and making it much more. I don't really "do" anything in particular with my system, it goes from internet browsing to GTA 5 to running BOINC when I'm sleeping and I do dabble in video editing from time to time but nothing serious.

What do you all think, jump ship now or ride out my current board till Zen etc. Or it dies.

Ride it out. Cheaper and the mobo dying is probably very small in the meantime to Zen.

In that case I could go with the FX 6300 and OC the hell out of it. Is there any big difference between the 6 and 8 cores in real world things especially when the 6 core is OC'ed. I tried looking for this info and it seems no one asked it, everyone only compares them stock for stock.

IMO, if you can really afford it without consequence, then move to intel. If it really doesn't matter to your real world use of computing and you can spend that money on something else to make the rig better, or go on a vacation, then do that. smile.gif

I would look for one of the newer amd cpus like the 8320e or 8370e and just overclock it.

If you want to switch to Intel I would go for the best z170 or x99 ddr4 setup I would skip the 4690k

Stick with the UD5, man. Buy an 8320e and enjoy your 4.8GHz OC.

+1 on going straight to z170 or x99 if you go intel. X99 depends on your needs. Everyone knows intel is unfortunately miles ahead of AMD, but since you're already on AMD I would get an 8320. They seem to go for 100 bucks on eBay not sure where you live, so idk if that'll be an issue. I honestly don't know what the difference is between the 8320 and the 8320e, it's been a while since I've checked out AMDs stuff.
