What is the average age for these people that you speak of?

Late teens early 20's. It's common to have to leave for a while due to mandatory millitary service in Korea for males of that age group

Basically this thread confirms that playing video-games today is still looked down upon by people. Few realize that being at the top of any sport takes more time and dedication than getting a better-paid and easier job.

Not that I especially care. ~

Fixing games in a televised competition to aid illegal gambling sites is serious business.

It's mostly just a very loud minority in some of the forum threads like this - there were ~4 posts in a row speaking out against the first response.

Yeah, late teens early 20's you don't have many responsibilities yet, so the lifestyle you refer to isn't as grueling compared to someone in their late 20's early 30's wherein typically you already have a family and a child. Meaning it's not as strenuous to require a person to make a certain amount of money to support a family. Here a good portion of these pro players might not be able to survive on their own because of their wage, but yet they don't have nearly as many responsibilities as an older person therefore their lifestyle is suitable for their current regimen.

So this reminds me of some other areas that while they are considered pro because of the level they play at, they quite haven't made it yet, and may never make it. So, nevertheless, not exactly the group of people I'm speaking about originally.

Exactly, everyone starts at the bottom and has to work their way up. Only difference with sports and regular jobs, you're relying on physical attributes that you can't maintain with age. A regular joe has to keep learning new things to make himself an asset in the workplace and he will retain that knowledge as he ages.

Dont get me wrong, Id love their job, getting paid for gaming? Hell yes!

But trying to make their job look harder than your regular joe, thats foolish.

At least professional "real" sports players actually perform some impressive physical feats and have to put a lot of very not fun training and exercise into it to achieve those goals. Not that they deserve the money they get either, doing literally nothing for society other than inspiring bar fights, stadium riots, and unrealistic expectations among children.
Your bias is showing.

You should become a professional gamer, since it's so easy and effortless. Surely, you want to make $80 an hour.
