Hello Dear all,

I would like to overclock my CPU to 4Ghz. I have done several configurations but I can't find any stable settings. Who can help me with overclocking the i7-960? It would be very nice.

Greetings,

Hello, Could you give us some information on your system, what cpu cooler are you using? What settings have you tried allready? What are you using for stability testing?

Edit: Just saw the mobo in your title.

Sure ^^

GPU: Asus6GB D5 X STRIX-GTX980T (OC to 1.4)
CPU: i7-960
CPU Cooler: CooMas V8 Vapor Chamber https://www.alternate.nl/Cooler-Master/V8-GTS-Vapor-Chamber-CPU-koeler/html/product/1107045?
Case: Aerocool XPredator Black Edt
Motherboard: EVGA X58 SLI3D3
Ram: 2x D316GB 2600-11 XPG V2 ti K2 ADA (16GB)

I tried kind of everything I'm not an expert of overclocking a CPU. I can't find any proper (noob) guides to overclock my i7-960. Because you have to deal with other things.

I hope I can ever OC my CPU to 4Ghz.

Cheers!

Can you find any 6700K? Because afaik 4790K still costs around 6700K making it a pretty bad purchase. If you found a decent Z170 board + 6700K I advice that you cancel your order and get those instead.

You should have bought a xeon x5650 or some cpu like that, the x5650 for example is a 6 core- 12 thread cpu, 2.66ghz stock and it overclocks to 4ghz with stock vcore, its 32nm, it produces less heat than nahlem, and it costs a whopping 65-75 us dollars, its basically a dirt cheap core i7 980x, take a look at it if you plan on keeping your x58 rig

Thanks all for information. But my budget isn't that high frown.gif But well, I have a motherboard and CPU from 2010 or something. I will do with this another 5 year xD.

The mobo and CPU cost me 400 Euro from a company I worked. It should cost around 500+.

But thanks anyway!

if you dont have enough money buy a xeon x5650 and overclock it to 4ghz, it will perform much better than the i7 960
