Airflow advices for CM 690

Hi Guys,

I noticed some unpleasant noise from my PC and decided to check all the fans. It turns out that the noise is not from the fans, but from the way they are mounted on the case. This raised my next question ... what would be the best airflow I can get in my box with the fans I have ... Here is the current setup:

Do you find this airflow right? Would it be a big deal if I change the direction of the side fan to suck air from the case?

Also, do you think that the fan in the left (near the CPU) is actually needed in such a setup? Wouldn't it be better to move it somewhere else?

Thanks in advance!

One thing to know is that you want more air flowing in than out. This creates pressure inside your case, keeping dust from getting sucked in every little hole.

If it were me, I would simply reverse the rear fan to blow air in. This will also blow air across the VRM, which is good.

An easy way to dampen noise from fans that don't have rubber feet is to us those little rubber bands for braces. You can get a package cheap from the drugstore. Just put one between each corner of the fan and the case.

Actually the reason for the noise was not the contact of the fans with the case, but the airflow going through the small holes of the case. I've manages to fix that by a homemade filters for the intake fans! I also reverted the rear fan to suck air in the case. Here is some pic so you can have a better view of the final result smile.gif

Thanks for the tip about the rear fan! I'm just a bit concerned if it will push hot air from the CPU cooler over my RAM chips, but I hope the EVO fan will handle all the heat and there will be no side effect smile.gif

Cheers,

Sometimes trial and error is your best bet. Keep an eye on temperatures and make adjustments as you go. I had a problem once with my heat coming from my video card, so I made a vent to re-direct it off to the side. You seem kindof handy (I dig the homemade filters!), I'm sure you can rig something up.

As yo umentioned, trial and error is the best way to go. I've noticed that the temps are higher while running Lynx and Prime95 with the intake rear fan. I needed to put it back to exaust. I believe it is comming from the fact that the CPU fan is not able to push the hot air from the cooler, as its flow is messed up by the rear fan.

Back to the traditional setup now ... top+rear: exaust and side+bottom+front: intake smile.gif

Cheers!
