[Hexus]Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980 WaterForce revealed

Interesting design and most importantly, no fan on the card because the water cover everything. Exactly how it should be thumb.gif

Gigabyte has announced the GeForce GTX 980 WaterForce (GV-N980WAOC-4GD). As you might guess, this is a graphics card based upon an Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 GPU, with 4GB of GDDR5 memory (on a 256-bit bus), and fitted with a 'WaterForce' all in one closed loop water cooling system. Out of the box users can enjoy this graphics card running at Base: 1228 MHz / Boost: 1329MHz (or 1253/1354MHz in OC Mode).

Due to its adept liquid cooling solution the new Gigabyte graphics card facilitates "superior overclocking capabilities". The usual Gigabyte OC GURU II software is supplied for easy speed tweaking. We are told that Gigabyte's full coverage cooling apparatus covers the GPU, VRAM and MOSFET, requiring no additional fans to be fitted to the board. The radiator connects to the water cooling block via robust 45cm SFP tubes transporting fluid from the low-noise pump. The coolant is chilled using a 120mm 'silent fan'. Overall Gigabyte says its GeForce GTX 980 WaterForce card "is able to perform up to 38.8 per cent cooler than the reference cooling in operating temperature for ultra-stable gaming in near silence".

They should have put 6GB VRAM on it. If you're gonna put water cooling on it and run higher clocks and voltages, you're gonna want to run higher resolutions.... more VRAM needed.

The game ARK at 1440P high/epic settings uses all 4GB VRAM on my 980 OC to 1500Mhz Core /4000Mhz Mem. BUtter smooth 78 FPS average.

As an avid AMD fanboy, that's pretty nice. I'm curious as to how well that size rad will handle a big OC with the GPU, ram and Vram all adding heat to the system. thumb.gif

Honestly not sure why Hexus thought this was news. Gigabyte pushed out a ridiculous 3x WaterForce (980 3-way SLI) about 9 months ago.

Granted it was probably a commercial failure since they wanted $3000 for the entire contraption. So I suspect they simply ditched the controller, and are now selling each of the 980 WaterForce cards separately. biggrin.gif

What on earth are you talking about? You are linking to a complete different card.
EDIT: No thats the same. You are right, sorry. Good for them for selling them separately. smile.gif

I use the stock gaming 4G MSI fans and have better temps. Noise really isnt bad at all I run more voltage and better clocks. So it's basically a GTX980 with an AIO strapped on.

Am I taking crazy pills or... I mean... The 980Ti for not THAT much more money. Why would anyone buy an almost year old, mid-sized die gpu for this much money?

This is what evga and corsair should've done. +1 to cooling vrms on selected bins. But no 980Ti? And why so ugly?
