[Tech Times] 'Fallout 4' PC Disc Does Not Pack The Full Game, Says Bethesda Exec - Here's The Deal - Page 3

It would be a logistical nightmare and simply not worth it to make two versions. So they'd be forced to ship on multiple DVDs. But even then, optical drives are going away in general and it would be too expensive to bother from a business standpoint.

I love how OCN tends to say, in any thread about HDDs, "Pssh, why are those dinosaurs still around? I only use solid state drives," yet also say "I want my games shipped on an outdated medium!" I understand that optical media has its niche, but it's getting to the point where digital distribution is the only distribution.

Those that chose not to incorporate optical drives in their builds have already sold out to the industry and don't intent to buy boxed games anyway. Those people have already moved on to Steam and their ilk.

I would suspect that most of the off the shelf computers/laptops for the average Joe, and that is the bulk of the OEMs, still have optical drive integration.

lachen.gif Okay, that's actually pretty funny. Kudos to Rockstar I guess, even though they still have that awful, awful, terrible DRM. Kinda defeats the purpose of a physical copy in most cases.

These game companies just don't get it. They are encouraging piracy through their anti-piracy policies. I made a huge mistake buying GTA V and I'm not about to make the same mistake with FO4. Thanks for this article, because it's got me very weary about actually purchasing this game.

As an Australian who has to live with extremely slow internet speeds and a monthly cap of only 70GB that has to be spread over 3 other people besides myself, this decision is beyond frustrating. I've always purchased the physical retail copies of PC games because they're quicker for me to install, and also ensure that my family has access to the internet for the rest of the month.
Can't they just do this the way Skyrim was? you know, buy the physical media, install, log in to steam a/c, download updates (patches), activate.... done!

When I bought that game it had the DLC already (Legendary edition) and ever since then, I just play in SP mode with a handful of mods... what could be simpler??? biggrin.gif

But Its too complex for game publishers, so paint every pc gamer with the same brush..... Hackers & pirates.. the whole lot of you!!!!!

Yeah, right... we'll just have to suck it up or no game!!! gunner2.gif

phewww, got that off my chest... cough... cough...

Would just like to remind you that this is what every major game company does now (for the most part).. We may not like it, but they don't care about us or what we think.. If they actually did, what is happening now would have stopped a long time ago.

Face it, they see us all as pirates whether we are one or not.

EDIT: Grammar..

Don't understand the problem tbh. Have to do a massive day one patch download on the consoles too.

Not nearly as frustrating as being required to log into a specific server or multiple servers to play a single player game. That's the one that really grinds my gears. (I'm looking at you 2K sports and your NBA 2k15 and Blizzard with your Diablo 3 Never again!)

They did this with Skyrim, I didn't expect any different, nor did I expect them to be like CD projekt red, as much as I'd love Bethesda to have a similar anti-piracy policy. It will fairly quickly get pirated, just like Skyrim. Overall nothing really surprising or to be concerned about, if they were taking a Ubisoft route I'd be pissing my pants.

Meh for me, since I'll get the steam version anyway. However, this negates one of the major reasons people by Physical copies, and it should be their choice. Not everyone is without bandwidth caps or, and some are cursed with Satellite Internet. So. Hopefully it'll be a somewhat small amount of data.

Playing Devil's advocate for a moment. Even w/ traditional physical copies, how many times do you have to DL large updates after installing anyway?
But that rolls back around again to why can't devs release working product, rather than paid public beta testing, with internet-distributed fixes later. Almost every time I talk to a retired software engineer/programmer(run into them surprisingly often @ work), they're horrified at how software releases are handled now days.
