Many boards now have Killer NICs built in, unlike previously when it was a separate add-on card. It had a connotation of just being marketing BS especially because it was pretty overpriced. It's not worth buying a board JUST for it,
but if you have it, there's nothing to worry about. Tests prove it isn't terrible and actually beats the Intel NIC in some respects. Slightly lowering latency in games does in fact work as advertised, with a mix of hardware, drivers and nice QoS (Quality of Service) software. Since it is now standard on some high end gaming boards (MSI mainly), some people made it seem like it was even worse than Realtek NICs (usually thought of as the worst). Turns out, they're wrong (or exaggerated).
Probably why people thought it was a huge gimmick before:Edited by TheBloodEagle - 10/21/15 at 10:35pm
