[Thought Log] 'C-Sweet' Build - Page 14

In addition to getting the final parts for my reservoir, I also got 4 x Case Through Hole and 4 x Rotary 90-Degree Multi-Link Adapter (both from Bitspower). These eight (8) items are solid little buggers and I am really looking forward to using them.

Except the rotary adapter doesn't fit the Monsoon Hardline Tube 3/8" x 1/2" tubing that I already have. Apparently, they want 10mm x 12mm tubing. Maybe I should have ordered the Rotary 90 Degree IG 1/4" Adapter so that I could add my own monsoon fitting.

What is PPCS' return policy?

I'm going to completely isolate my pumps from the case. That means soft cushions to sit on as well as soft tubes to connect to the balance of the loop. My economy monsoon fittings are only suitable for hardline.

So, I will need some Bitspower G1/4 Matte Black Dual Rotary 90-Degree Compression Fitting Ultimate-ID 3/8" OD 1/2" or Bitspower G 1/4" Matte Black Rotary 90 Degree IG 1/4" Adapter in combination with Bitspower Premium G1/4" Matte Black Compression Fitting Ultimate for ID 3/8" OD 1/2" OD Tube.

Here is a review of what I think I need for my fittings. I'm going to work my way through the (theoretical) build and record what I need.

Pedestal
  • Drain from the bottom of one of the radiators to the front panel of the S5 pedestal
  • This will enable me to attach a compression fitting to the outside of the pedestal to drain the loop. All of my tubing is 3/8" x 1/2" but I am thinking of getting bigger tubing for fill / drain purposes. So ... the actual fitting I will be getting is up in the air at the moment
  • Connection to S5 will be via D-Plugs, I'm just not sure which length I will need yet ... need to wait until I get the pedestal, radiators, S5, etc before I can see that gap
  • 2 x panel pass throughs to the S5 pic (Click to show)
    Barrow-Pass-Through-sml.jpg
  • All other fittings are Monsoon Economic fittings and hardline tubing (already purchased)
Quote:
Running tally ...
1 x 90°, 1 x valve, 3 x pass through, 1 x plug

Pump Assembly
  • I am going to be running two pumps in series. I want them isolated so they will be sitting on Shoggy Sandwichs and all tubing leading to them will be flexible (3/8" x 1/2")
  • 1 x panel pass through - in the S5 mid-chassis part (other connection is to the reservoir) pic (Click to show)
    Barrow-Pass-Through-sml.jpg
  • 1 x 90° rotary connection from the pass through pic (Click to show)
    Barrow-90-degree-Rotary-sml.jpg
  • 1 x compression fitting (attached to the 90° fitting) pic (Click to show)
    Barrow-Compression-Fitting-sml.jpg
  • soft tubing
  • 1 x compression fitting
  • 1 x 90° rotary connection into pump #1
  • 1 x 90° rotary connection out of pump #1
  • 1 x compression fitting
  • soft tubing
  • 1 x compression fitting
  • 1 x 90° rotary connection into pump #2
  • 1 x 5-way (or 4-way) rotary snake (180° turn) out of pump #2 pic (Click to show)
    Barrow-Snake-sml.jpg
  • 1 x compression fitting
  • soft tubing
  • 1 x compression fitting
  • into pass through fitting (already counted in pedestal above)

Note that Bitspower has 90° degree compression fittings for the 3/8" x 1/2" tubing but I couldn't find those for Barrows. Hence my combination of 90° and compression fittings.

Running tally ...
5 x 90°, 1 x valve, 4 x pass through, 1 x plug, 6 x compression, 1 x snake

Top of S5 Assembly
  • I'm going to be running my loop up and down from computer parts to a top panel section. This makes my loop much (much!) longer than it needs to be ... but I am hoping that it will look unique and interesting.
  • There will be 1 tube down to the CPU, 1 tube up from the CPU, 1 tube down to the GPU, 1 tube up from the GPU (these are all through the top panel)
  • There will also be 1 tube into this system (from the radiators) and 1 tube out of this system (to the reservoir) - they will both be via hardline bent tubing ... no fittings required
  • For this, I need ...
    • 4 x panel pass throughs - for the 4 tubes up / down to the computer parts pic (Click to show)
      Barrow-Pass-Through-sml.jpg
    • 4 x 90° rotary connection from the pass throughs (connected via bent hardline tubing) pic (Click to show)
      Barrow-90-degree-Rotary-sml.jpg
Quote:
Running tally ...
9 x 90°, 1 x valve, 8 x pass through, 1 x plug, 6 x compression, 1 x snake

This leaves the reservoir (I have all of the fittings required to plumb the reservoir) and the connection from the radiators to the top tubing system. This second connection can either be 1 long hardline tubing run with bends ... but I am unsure if I can pull that off and make it look nice at the same time. I would like to completely hide this from external view. If you take a look at an S5 with the front panel off (see spoiler pic) ... pic (Click to show)
DSC_5639__61732.1382723598.1280.1280.jpg?c=2
... my loop will be coming up from the pedestal into the right portion of the flex-bays (there is enough room under the flex-bays to dog-leg this either left or right. A dog-leg to the right gives a tubing run up the corner of the S5, or (my preference), a dog-leg to the left gives a run that can go up between the mid-chassis section and the flex-bays (note the black screw heads on the front panel that are connected to the mid-chassis part) ... there is room to run the tubing up there.

However, that is a long tubing run ... so I am thinking of breaking it up using blocks like so ...

The Run To The Top

Again, Bitspower has Q-blocks that include the rotary but buying the 'sphere' part and the connector separately gives me flexibility with the orientation of the block.

Quote:
Running tally ...
9 x 90°, 1 x valve, 10 x pass through, 5 x plug, 6 x compression, 1 x snake, 2 x 4-way blocks, 2 x rotary adapter

So ... that running tally of parts (assuming I have my maths right smile.gif) is pretty much what I asked about in the email toe AliExpress). I already have 4 pass-throughs that I can use ... and ... you can always use more plugs.

I just ordered 51 Barrow fittings from AliExpress ... cost me $221 using DHL shipping. The big questions now are ... has it been worth it ... and when will they arrive.

Well ...
  • getting the same parts through Newegg would have cost $335 and I would have got them in 5-7 days.
  • getting similar (Bitspower) parts through PPCs would have cost $436 (letting the discount pay for the shipping) and I would have got them in 5-7 days

So ... save $110 (or $210 for not going Bitspower) but wait some days longer. Guess I will have to wait and see how the shipping process goes. Not that I actually have anything to install them in yet ... so shipping delays is the least of my problems.

Edit: Just noticed this ...
Awaiting Shipment
Processing Time remaining: 15 days 14 hours 44 minutes

Wrong time to order from AliExpress if you are concerned about shipping time. It's Chinese New Year, and just about everything is shut down until 13 Feb.

That's true ... guess this will be a 'worst case' example.
