OC questions

Hello,

I'm new to this forum and fairly new to OC. I'm not even sure i'm posting in the right place.

I've a old computer and i want to be able to squeeze it to the limits.

MY SPECS

Intel C2D E8500 @ 3.16Ghz
Asus P5Q3 ( 1600 fsb )
2x Kingstom 4GB DDR3 1333MHz
Asus GTX 260

My friend is pushing two of these CPUs in different builds to 4.2Ghz, and out of the box, he upped my CPU to 3.8Ghz just messing around. It was good and i noticed the performance increase.

Now i want to start going harder on the CPU. But after googling and reading a lot, i'm not sure if my chain of logic is right . (A lot of inconclusive and contraditory answers around the web).

So can you help me check if my logic is right?

1 - Did my RAM got underclocked by default ? I mean, my CPU is using a 9.5 multiplier x 333 Mhz FSB, do this set my RAMs to 2x333 instead of 1333Mhz? DDR3 is also 2XFSB right?

2 - Should i get my FSB up to 667 in order to get my RAM frequency up to 1333MHz ( 2x 667 ) and then lower the multiplier in order to not go too high on my CPU? Something like 7x multiplier?

I will be posting more questions if my logic chains is correct.

Download CPU-Z. It will answer your questions.

It might look like i'm just lazy, but i have a bit of a background and i could just go on testing uping it little by little, but i want to understand instead of experiment (like my friend does).

I also found people on the web saying things like:

DDR3 means that it is 2^3 x FSB, which makes me confuse in who to believe.

Since i start doing the overclock by myself i'm using both CPU-Z and Prime95.

What does CPU-Z say your CPU speed is?
What multiplier does CPU-Z say you are using?
What memory speed does CPU-Z say you have? (You have DDR -Double Data Rate - memory, so double whatever CPU-Z says.)
When reading your owner's manual I don't see anything about overclocking options in the BIOS. How are you overclocking then?
