AMD’s next generation “Arctic Islands” family of FinFET GPUs has been subject to a number of leaks this year. One of which indicated that the family contains three new GPUs, code named Greenland, Ellesmere and Baffin. Today we’re not only confirming that this is information is in fact accurate but that both Ellesmere and Baffin have in fact taped out and are awaiting commencement of FinFET process volume production to kick off next year.

We are also focused on delivering our next-generation GPUs in 2016 designed to improve performance per watt by 2X compared to our current offerings, based on design architectural enhancements, as well as advanced FinFET process technology.

Isn't this kinda soon?

Sounds about right. Seems things get taped out at least a year in advance. Nothing noteworthy about this.

As long as they release on time with Nvidia this round, we'll be good.

Considering that the GPUs taped out in early Q3, Lisa Su said they were gonna replace all existing cards with a new architecture in the upcoming quarters, TSMC 16nm in full production and doing better than 20nm... nope, not hard to believe at all.
I think we might see the first R9 400 GPUs in Q1 2016. Perhaps midrange first

Ooops, I said something positive about AMD. Probably wont be noticed anyway rolleyes.gif

Of course it will be and now thanks to you I'll have to read 100s of posts discrediting and proving how evil AMD is somehow!!!

Maybe AMD aka ATi going back to mid range early on a new process strategy they used to do.

People didnt call the first GCN card midrange (7970, November 2011), but looking at 290X and Fiji and how huge they are in comparison, it was just as midrange as GTX 680 was to 780 Ti imo.

So yeah, hoping for a 7970 equivalent in Q1 2015
