AMD was well ahead on 28nm aswell.

NV is in a better position. They can let AMD reign supreme for a few months if that's what it takes to develop a strategy to appear to be the overall winners in the long run. Good numbers on release day are paramount. Those benchmarks will be used as the primary reference until the competition releases a new chip.

It would be nice is AMD could really hit it out of the park with these cards. Will they? No clue.

I am just crossing my fingers that AMD can take back some market segment and more importantly make some profit for once. I don't want a monopoly sad-smiley-002.gif

Can we expect a performance jump like the one that happened from HD 6xxx to 7xxx? (HD 7970 beating HD 6990 out the box). Would be pretty nice if we could have a performance jump like that.

no not really, the only "new" thing in AMD's current lineup is the ultra-rare (rarer than 980Ti) Fury/FuryX/Nano cards, and probably the up coming full Tonga 380X.

on the other hand, we got a bunch of rebrands in the 300 series, even down to the 7000 series had made it into the mid-tier 300 series GPUs.

we already had one with the fury cards, 290X to Fury X is a 30%~50% jump, depending on resolution and game, although its not faster than 295X2.
the only reason why we didn't feel the performance jump is due to the rebrands flooding the 300 series.

though on that note, if even the mid-tier GPUs will get a new card, we can probably expect a good jump in performance.
something like a $250 card out performing the old 290X sort of jump in performance.

Just FYI, Fury SKUs are readily available.

OHH, now that you mentioned it, they're no longer "out-of-stock", since when?

I expect mid-range 16nm GPU to outperforms Fury. But what will the price be? It will make Fury totally obsolete.

Biggest jumps are with die shrinks.
technologically improvements are smaller and then the die needs to go up aka 600mm.
it seems the jump will be pretty big both with power savings and performance.
entusiast get the boost with performance and they add power savings for the rest of the line up as double the transistors does a big jump by itself.
