Is this a good micro atx build?

Thread Starter
I am building my girlfriend a desktop. I went with micro atx because it is small and usually cheaper. She will be using it for photoshop and indesign and other editing programs. Although not video editing.

This is what i came up with, i am trying to get the price down without really hurting performance because i don't want to have to make huge upgrades when i get more money:

I will be using my gtx 970 from my rig as i will be upgrading to a 980ti. I also have some spare 2 x 8gb Corsair vengeance 1866mhz ddr3.

I like the 350D because of the window and the space for future water cooling.

Thank you.

You really should get at least a 120gb SSD for your OS drive.

Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($63.89 @ Newegg)

Other than that, looks good to me. thumb.gif

I'd definitely go with more ssd space as stated above. If you have a cheap air cooler laying around (hyper 212 comes to mind) you can easily get that 4690k to 4.4 with no hassle.

The only other possible issue I see is that particular memory kit may or may not be on the qualified vendor list. Don't count on Gigabyte lifting a finger to help you troubleshoot unless you have QVL memory installed.

any particular reason why you are staying away from a 6600k?

I thought 60gb was enough for an OS drive, later a bigger ssd will be added for programs like photoshop.

True But most 60gb ssd's are not that great and the V300 you chose isn't very good as kingston uses 3 different types of memory tech

Get a larger SSD, as people have said. If you are in the states, you can find OCZ Arc 100 240GB SSDs for around $60 on slickdeals from time to time. There is also a promotion at Tigerdirect for $25 off of $100, which can be applied to SSDs I'm sure. You will find 60GB to be incredibly small, and 120GB to be small-ish. Personally, I wouldn't look for anything smaller than 240/250/256GB.

Edit~I'll make it even easier for you: OCZ Arc 100 240GB for $59.99 after Mail-In-Rebate

Okay thanks. Are there any other ways i could bring the price down? I replaced the wd black 2tb with a wd blue 1tb so the price is at $661, if i can get it down to like $600 or less that wpuld be great. I have tried looking on ebay for used versions of these components vut so far all the used ones cost more than if i bought new..
