Question about PCIe lanes usage and configuration with setup (Asus X99 Deluxe).

Hi guys,

I am in need of some advice.

Currently, I am considering upgrading to an Asus X99 Deluxe.
However, I am wondering about the PCIe configuration and available lanes.

Here is the expected configuration:

- Motherboard: Asus X99 Deluxe
- Intel Core i7-5930K
- 2x EVGA GTX 970 FTW+ (in SLI obviously)
- 1x EVGA GTX 650 (dedicated for Physx)
- 1x Samsung SSD 950 Pro (which will use PCIe)

Other details are not needed for the moment. I won't be using any other PCIe devices, only the ones stated above.

I understand, from previous configurations and builds, that using 3 videocards (SLI + Physx) would result in: 16x/16x/8x (for this motherboard at least).

But what happens when I add the Samsung SSD 950 Pro (also PCIe) into this configuration? Will everything drop to 8x?
I have been searching for this for some time, but probably I search incorrectly, but I cannot find anything on it.

Can someone explain what speeds my PCIe devices will run?
Maybe someone has experience about this first hand?

Sorry if I ask a silly question, but I really want to know.

On a sidenote; currently still using a X79 (MSI Big Bang xPower II) + 4930K configuration.
I know it's not a real / big upgrade, but I want something new.

Thank you in advance for your answers! thumb.gifthumb.gifthumb.gif

If you were to add an additional card of any kind after three GPUs to the X99 Deluxe, you would have only 8x for every slot. You might want to look into the X99-E WS. Its two PLEX chips will allow combinations up to quad x16.

Thank you Lady Fitzgerald.

Yeah, I thought so, was hoping for better news though.

Already looked into the Asus X99-E WS and looks as a great board, however I don't like the price. smile.gif
I can get the Deluxe for only 280 Euro, while the X99-E WS would cost me almost 490 Euro.

Sadly, most of the time, you only get what you pay for. All I can suggest is watch for sales.

Btw, running all your GPUs on only x8 won't make all that much of a hit on your performance. You might not even notice the difference.
