[Help] The Quest for a new Case (small mATX, 240mm Radiator)

Thread Starter
Heya, I hope this thread is posted in the correct subforum (if not, I appreciate to be pointed into the right direction smile.gif)

I'm currently planning a new rig, as my old rig is... well, kinda old. The stuff in my signature is kinda up-to-date, so... we're talking about a 5 year old i5-2500 with a GTX 560.

The new rig is currently planned as a FX-8320 with a GTX 970, starting with my old 8 GB and expanded by additional 8 GB sometime later on.
http://www.overclock.net/lists/display/view/id/6355604
In more detail, the rig will (at some point, won't be bought at the same time) consist of the following components:

An ASROCK 970M Pro3 Motherboard, as I'm kinda going with an "all-black"-look, which means most ASUS or MSI-boards just wouldn't fit my aesthetics (don't judge me! biggrin.gif)
Fitted with an AMD FX-8320; one of the parts I'm kinda unsure about. It's been a long while since I used AMD, and I'm really not that apt with their line-up. Feedback to this choice would be appreciated.
Depending on my finances, the graphics card will be either a Gigabyte GTX 960 Windforce, or a Gainward GTX 970 Phantom. Again, my choices are a bit limited here, see MoBo. But I'm pleased with how the 560 Phantom did it's job.
The CPU will be cooled by my more-or-less new Raijintek Triton, a "somewhat expandable" AIO-watercooling system with a 240mm-radiator, powered by two SilentWings.

Now, my old SG05 is way too small for that cooler, as it's a mITX-case and I''m no modder.

So I'm looking for help regarding the search of a "most compact case, that can still house both a 240mm-watercooler and a somewhat long graphics card"

As my wallet is a little thin these days, I'm sticking to AMD-cores for now. CPU power is usually not a concern for me, there are just a few games (From The Depths, Kerbal Space Program, Space Engineers) that really do tax my aged i5-2500. Question #1 would be, how large - if any - the performance boost would be when switching over from a i5-2500 to a FX-8320.
I also multitask heavily, usually at least some music combined with a 30-50 tab-firefox (well, several windows, but still one process anyway) that usually hovers around 1.5-2.3 GB in RAM-usage. Youtube while gaming isn't a rare thing either, and stuff like chats, Skype and co also want to be handled as well.
As far as my little knowledge goes, the AMD CPU should handle that multitasking better than the Intel, due to being an octacore and not only a dual core, even if Unity4-games like some of the above-mentioned probably won't get a large boost on said CPU.
While the watercooler was mainly chosen for the low noise (as I don't game with a headset), I do plan to use it's headroom to overclock that CPU slightly. I'm not experienced in this field and it is to be assumed that my overclocking will be quite tame, and especially on the safer side of things. What kind of boost could I expect from this?

I do like minimalistic and efficient designs, and while I know a larger case has a) more room for airflow and therefore b) usually a better temperature, my OCD usually dislikes a case that is 80% "unused space", so to speak. So I would prefer a case that is "as small as possible" while still not getting dangerously hot and - obviously - allowing all planned parts.

Just to repeat myself, while I am looking for a new case, I am also appreciative about feedback regarding the currently choosen parts.

Cheers smile.gif

PS: Please ignore typos or wrong grammatic, if any. English isn't my native language.

My opinion would be a Corsair 350d, if you can find one. I think it's discontinued though. I did see however, that Corsair has released a smaller Carbide 88r, which is mATX as well, may be what you are looking for. If I didn't already own a 350d, I'd be giving it a shot.

I just got a Corsair Air 240 mATX case. It has a lot of RAD options and is easy to build in. I love the large front window and being a dual chamber case the cable management allows a very clean build.

I think the Asrock 970m is about the best mATX board for an AM3+ build but I may have missed some. I would go with a R9 390 if I was going to spend $300+ on a GPU, it's a faster card with 8Bg of memory plus a tad cheaper.
