First CPU upgrade in 5 years - Page 2

The other posters have offered up some great advice already, so I am just gonna leave that part to them.

I can directly speak for 3d printing side of things. It doesn't actually take a powerful computer to do the slicing or to run the printer.
Where you are gonna benefit the most if if you are running some 3d modeling software like 123d design, but even that isn't terribly heavy.

I run Autodesk 123d design, and with my GTX 770, it runs flawlessly.
So just my 2 cents on you wanting to use the build for 3d printing.

The card pulls about 200 watts. You're good to go.

So for my old rig should I set it up for a NAS? or just toss it?

I'd keep it until the new rig is up and running. You can use if for spare parts or a backup.

Absolutely! haha
I'm thinking long term. I was chatting with two buds about maybe turning it into a htpc with network storage. ( I have a spare 500w just sitting in storage) If it's feasible I'd like to put most of my media, documents, and programs on the network and leave ssd storage for OS and games on the future rig. That way I could leave my power requirements low.
