Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 overclock through BSEL trick

Thread Starter
Hello everyone.

I "overclocked" the FSB from 1066MHz to 1333MHz with the BSEL trick:

Is this actually safe?
I tried multiple benchmarks, and none of them reported any error.

I'm pretty new here, sorry for this dumb question! biggrin.gif (Even if the account is from 2014)

Specs:
HP Pavilion a6485.it
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz (Now at 3GHz, thanks to the BSEL trick)
4GB RAM DDR2
AsusTek IPIBL-LB (Benicia, based on G33)
AMD Radeon HD 7770
Windows 8.1 Pro

If it works, benches and stress tests fine I wouldn't worry about it. If it was done incorrectly it would have shorted something or just not worked at all. Seeing how it's stable and working, I would call it a job well done. thumb.gif

Are you using the stock HP cooling? If so, either disconnect the sense wire to force the fan to run at full speed, or pay close attention to the cleanliness of the heatsink. If it fouls a bit, it can drive an overclocked Q6600 into higher temperatures (and unstable territory).

I used to run mine like that, with a 200MHz overclock on top for total of 3.2GHz for two years between 2011 and 2013. I liked the 333MHz FSB strap for additionally overclocking DDR2 memory.

The fan is REALLY loud at full speed, also I costantly clean the heatsink to prevent things like that.

No need to run the fan at full speed as long as temperatures seem to be in check. Since you were able to make the speed increase without additional voltage the temperature shouldn't go up too much thumb.gif

Oh man BSEL mods. My E5200 was also BSEL modded to 1066, only way to clock it that high on the ol' 4COREDUAL! Finicky as all heck though. Bloody thing kept shifting all over the place.

Ended up supergluing a strip of aluminium foil to the chip, lol.

It's safe, don't worry ;)
