Used (ebay) gaming laptop $500

Hey guys,

I've started moving away from my office desktop for gaming and I need a laptop that can actually handle what I'm playing. Will be buying off ebay, I'm going to hunt for auctions and hold out for a good deal... so give me some laptops you think might be right over $500 aswell. Going to use craigslist too and you never know the deals you'll find. I would like to try and stay with a 15" as I will mostly be using it on a lap desk. I know that might eliminate the bulk of good gaming laptops so I am willing to compromise on size if the advantages are great enough. I'll be overclocking and if it makes sense, upgrading components.

Mostly playing MMO's, the latest being Guild Wars 2. Would like to be able to play 2015 games on at least medium settings with good frame rates.

I'd prefer a higher end laptop with good build quality, so an older system that has lost most of its value would appeal to me more than this years mid range. The one feature I really want is a nice screen, I've spent the last 4 years with a mid grade Asus that has a budget x768 panel with terrible contrast, color, viewing angle, and response... I'm sick of it!

Thanks in advance.

What screen size do you require? 15"

What screen resolution do you require? 1080

660m would probably struggle with something like witcher 3, but maybe I'm asking for too much at $500.

Flashable GPU and BIOS

You will want to flash the GPU to match overclocked 755m performance which can take you to around or above 770m levels

This machine will require some attention though, as the HSF was poorly attached (common in this models lifespan and the one that replaced it) so with that being said...

Look up the "Spacer Mod", there is also a shroud removal to allow more direct air flow. Check my review in my sig for what you can expect with that laptop. Its a nice machine, and for 500 and the potential you can unlock its a good bargain

This is 20 more, but more RAM and resolution is actually listed.

Receiver, do you know if its possible to tell visually if the Y500 has the 2nd gpu in the ultrabay? It looks to me like the extra fan and the gpu caddys appear very similar when viewed from the side of the laptop (they both have air vents.) I can't find any good pics looking into the vents of the fan caddy so I'm wondering if it has copper heatsink fins visible like the gpu caddy does. I don't see why it would... but who knows. Most of the people selling these don't know what the hell they have

Figured the extra fan was vaporware, never even seen a report of one

Just make sure its in the listing, if they rip you off just file a claim and get another laptop.
