Having issues with Asus Mg279q getting 144hz

Hello all,
I recently purchased the Asus Mg279q to try to find the right monitor for my needs. I am using the mini display port cable that came with it and I am only able to get it to run at 119hz, I am unsure why I am unable to get it to run at 144hz. The option in windows is only up to 120hz and when I try to run a custom resolution and refresh rate it returns back to 119 hz. When I start the computer it appears to run at 144hz in the monitor menu, but once windows loads it returns to 119hz again. Anyone have this issue? Does anyone have a fix? Thanks, this is bugging me.

What are your NVidia settings in Windows - screen resolution?

What's your graphics card? Only high end GPUs have enough Pixel Clock rate to drive a 1440p monitor with 8 bits depth at 144Hz.

If you have a GTX 960 or a Radeon 270 or less, that's your problem.

This is normal.
Your GTX 670 does not have the horsepower to run 1440p at 144 hz. Not talking about the GPU itself, but the circuitry on the card.
Another poster recently had the same problem and his card was also a GTX 670.
It's the pixel clock being limited by the video card. It cant go past 480 MHz on those cards, although I don't know if 480 MHz is the limit or if its 485 MHz or 470 mhz. Even though the monitor is capable of it, the video card isn't. The pixel clock is too high.

You need to upgrade your video card. Sorry.

Lame, thanks. The game i am playing is relatively easy to run so fps isnt a problem, i assumed that it had something ro do with the card and not the monitor.
