Exactly the same thoughts here. I have a GTX 980 and that Acer 27" IPS g-sync monitor and I hate hearing that Fallout 4 will likely include Gameworks. Gameworks doesn't just kill performance on AMD cards, it also hurts performance on Nvidia cards, only not as much. I got something like a 25% fps hit for enabling Hairworks on the Witcher 3. It was terrible. I'm playing at 2560x1440 so I need every frame I can get.

Nvidia really is seems to be trying hard to push lock in to their ecosystem, through g-sync, through Physx and Gameworks, through things like the Shield. It sucks, I don't like feeling like I have to buy from one manufacturer or risk giving up features and/or performance in games. Lock in is ultimately bad for consumers and bad for gamers.

If AMD can put something truly competitive out when the next die shrink happens I'm jumping ship.

Why? So what? Who cares you get less FPS with gameworks?
Just freakin disable it. No FPS hits, no performance problems, no AMD issues.

You don't like gameworks? Disable it. Who will care? So you will get fog less foggy? Hair less hairy? So what? This will make you throw your mouse and the screen yelling "I don't like the game!!!!"?
I will tell you a little secret: Graphics is not what actually makes the game.

When TressFX got almost 30% performance it on AMD cards, did any of you came and yelled "AMD is ruining the universe?" Or did you just disable it and move on?

To those who has the raw power to run the game at full with gameworks, its cool. To those who don't, well, tough. Disable gameworks, and you are golden.
Several years ago activating AA would be impossible even on top end cards. Now it's trivial even with low end cards. Tech move forward, performance move forward.

Stop crying about it constantly. Your top end card will not always be up to date with the best brand new technology. That is life.

It's clear from testing that Nvidia is, purposely or not (but come on, obviously on purpose), crippling performance on AMD hardware with these features.

Pretty telling that you would use words like "stop crying", that is a very antagonistic approach. My "top end card" IS up to date with the "best brand new technology" if that is really what you want to call Gameworks. I call Gameworks a trojan horse designed to hurt performance for everyone but hurt performance for the other guys a lot more. A lot of gamers are against this and are speaking up, both Nvidia users and AMD users.

https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/367qav/mark_my_word_if_we_dont_stop_the_nvidia_gameworks/

A lot of good information and feedback are in that thread. If you want to argue that Gameworks is a good thing be my guest, but don't try and shut me down. Don't say, "stop your crying" because I'm not going to listen to you.

I think the opinion in this thread has been pretty consistent and it isn't in favor of Gameworks.

Now we know why the requirements were so high for AMD cards..and NVidia cards too.

The requirements are i5-2300 and GTX 550 - that's not high. Amazing as it seems I suspect there may be some "graphics options" to adjust to the PCs we have - its not Bethesda's problem how we've built them.

Consider how at the time of its release the AMD 7870 was almost exactly twice as powerful as a Gtx 550ti and you see where some of the confusion arises from smile.gif

Gameworks is propriety of nvidia running libraries optimised to nvidia.
It is not meant to run on AMD, nvidia are not optimising it for AMD, they never said it is meant to run smoothly on AMD, and if you have AMD card, you can disable it and live on. If there wasn't gameworks, you will still run without it, and still live on. The existence of gameworks will not make AMD cards suddenly, dead.

So you want to cry that gameworks is "ruining" anything. Well, lets imagine gameworks is gone. No gameworks. So your AMD card can run just find because it doesn't exist right? So if you disable gameworks options in the game, you get the same effect. So I have no idea why you are crying about it like it is breaking something.
Remember when witches 3 AMD drivers came out, and suddenly everything was just peachy? Did anyway say "oh, so it wasn't gameworks? It was AMD drivers needed update? My bad"? Not a single person.

I see a lot of crying about project cars, about witches 3, and it is laughable.

PhysX is now open sourced. AMD can make use of that and run it on their GPUs. But they decided not to. It is their choice. I don't see anyone being angry about it. But when AMD puts their HairFX as so called open source, I see everyone being angry whey nvidia decide not to support it. Double standard, like I said earlier.

Also witches 3 performance reviews showed that disabling gameworks will make the game works just fine. Absolutely fine. Activating gameworks causes performance hit on AMD more than Nvidia, for extra visuals. No one is forcing them to run those things. So again, this is just crying. "Oh I want to run ever game on max settings on best visuals on highest 4K at 60fps+ on my 2 years old 290x". Give me a break will ya?

So overall, stop lying to yourself. And stop crying about it.
When pascal comes, mid and top end GPUs will be able to run all gameworks more easily, because it requires a lot even from today's top end (and no, your 980 sc is not top end today anymore). The same as crysis 3 was really demanding with all visuals and settings, and a generation later, it was much more consistent and playable with max settings.

Sometimes visuals go way forward than what the GPU is capable now. It doesn't mean nvidia should absolutely stop developing new things. Else we would all be on the same visual quality from 2005 just running 300fps.
And nvidia are in their right to develop those things for their GPUs. Why? Because they can. The same as intel develops their CPUs and not give away their tech to AMD. Do you expect intel to spend billions for next gen 10nm and just give it away to AMD for free? Right.. like it will ever going to happen.

Nvidia are leading the market, they have the funds, they do the research, they spend years of manpower to make things work. If they had to give it away for free to AMD just because people on reddit on OCN cry about their 290x or fury x, they would not make anything. And that would be even worse.

You can cry about anything you want.
It doesn't mean you are right about what you cry about. And in that same right, I have the right to tell you that you are crying over spilled milk. It is pointless.
