New G-Sync monitor help - Page 2

As someone with two GTX 970's I can tell you that adding another 970 will make 1440p a cinch. If you intend to make the monitor last then 1440p is your best bet because adding another 970 can probably done fairly cheaply next year when the new cards start rolling out. I am not sure how well Nvidia DSR resolutions translate, if rendering 4k DSR is similar to actually using a 4k monitor (performance not appearance), but SLI 970's can do quite well at 4k with some settings tweaks. 1440p should be no problem down the road if you choose to add another 970, even at higher (100+) refresh rates.

What games do you like to play? If you like competitive type FPS games then refresh rate is probably more important than eye candy. 1440p 144hz monitors really are the sweet spot right now, 4k really needs to grow a bit more (higher refresh rates and new DP connection) before it can be as satisfying as 1440p. You can't really future proof with 4k right now since we really don't have the good stuff yet, high refresh rate 4k.

Thanks for the reply. I like playing Farcry 4, Elite Dangerous, Assassins Creed, Fallout and more so looking forward to playing Star Wars Battlefront in November. Rig will be used to play that for the most part.

I have created a custom resolution to try some rough benchmarks for info on my current monitor. I'm very close to deciding between the 27" 1080p and 1440p gsync acer monitors. Could you guys please let me know if this info is helpful in deciding how my rig can hold up in its current form with a gsync monitor and my 970?

All settings are set to Ultra, (fps are a rough average from on-screen monitor)

Farcry 4
1440p - 42fps
1080p - 61fps

Elite Dangerous
1440p - 64fps
1080p - 79fps

Heaven Benchmark
1440p - 44fps
1080p - 92fps

Thanks again in advance thumb.gif

If you went with the 1080p monitor you could add another card later and take advantage of the high refresh rate of the monitor. Or you could get the 1440p monitor and have better pixel density and still get a decent experience because of G-Sync. If you did add another card with the 1440p monitor you could do both with slightly reduced settings in some games.

My guess is that you will probably be happier with the 1440p monitor in the end, most games don't show a drastic visual difference with slightly reduced settings. You could probably get the FPS up even with just one card on most games.

Hi guys, done a bit of further reading over the past few days. Seems to be some QC issues with the Acer and Asus, however it does appear to be pot luck. Got the list down to final (definitely final) list of 3. Two are 1440p and one feature packed 1080p. Please let me know what one you guys think would be best? this is going to be the decider thumb.gif

I can only speak for Rog swift and it is awesome for gaming. Just check for all known problems when you get it. QC had it's issues in the beggining but now hopefully it is better.

Thanks for the reply. Any other ideas? Am I right in saying anything over 30fps with g-sync will look ok? (BenchmarksI have done at 1440p show me just over 40fps on ultra) (will this be good for battlefront at 1440P?)
