USB Drive For Installing Windows 10

Thread Starter
I am wanting to buy a new USB flash drive for the specific purpose of installing Windows 10. What ones do you use? Please leave a model number and mention if you have had any problems with it in the past.

I used a $10 16gb drive that I got from Walmart years ago.

Literally anything will work fine.

Well, just look for something that gets really good read speeds, and USB3.0 if you are installing something with native usb3 and can take advantage of it.
Heres a review of 31 different USB sticks done by Toms Hardware:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/usb-3.0-thumb-drive-review,3477.html

I currently have my Windows 7 ISO on an 8gb stick I got years ago. So if you arent picky, just find something that works, and has enough space.

Yeah, if you're just installing windows from it anything will be fine.

Just got done installing windows 10 from that old cheap 16gb drive and it was plenty fast.

OK so this review states that the one that I use, the Sandisk Extreme, is the best. However, when I install Windows 10 off of it, it has a glitch. I call it a glitch because it doesn't cause any logs or errors once in Windows 10. You know where you put in your name during the OOBE menu? Once I am done with that screen and hit next, my computer reboots. But the second time around, it works just fine going through that menu. I am hoping you guys can provide me with actual model numbers of the ones that you have so I can buy one of them to install Windows 10 off of and that would be able to tell me if it's my computer or the Sandisk Extreme I own that is the problem. I have used Microsoft's tool twice to install Windows 10 on the flash drive. Thanks!

nothing over 16gb as you cant use the right filesystem that can boot, i bought a 32 once and didnt work so i had to go back and get a 16.

This is the exact one i used. Not saying it's the greatest thing ever, but it's always worked fine for what i use it for, including installing windows 10.

Which version of windows 10 are you installing? this was a bug usually found on some builds of the enterprise edition (LTSB). It wont matter what kind of usb you use its a windows build bug.

I have a windows 10 install on a class 10 8gb micro sd that I picked up for about £10 a while back. It has only has that windows 10 installer on it and I have used it on a few machines through a usb card reader. Works perfectly and installs pretty fast.

The brand is irrelevant, what is more important is the software you use to create the image on the USB drive.

But I'll answer your question anyway. I use a 16GB AData (Windows), a 32GB AData (recovery) and a 16GB Aigo (Linux) drive.
