Used GTX480

Thread Starter
I have found one such card in good rice. Is it worth getting and replacing my old gtx 265?

I have been advised to go for a ti card instead such as 560ti or 750 ti, but i see 480 is better, high usage and temps aside

Also it seems to be a referencecard. Does it matter compared to EVGA gigabyte, asus msi and such

I'd avoid the 480 personally. They run hot and use enough juice to light up Chicago and they sound like a hair dryer. If you must buy something from that era find a used GTX 570 instead.

Nothing wrong with a 480 if you have a least a bronze 750 psu. I just passed one on to a friend in the last week when I got my 970. The 480s are noisy and hot running, but still kick butt. If you have headphones for gaming, you are golden.....

Bucks are beacoup on your America, but here on Europe prices are ****ty. I can get 480 for 70 euros but 750ti goes 100-110 or more. 760 goes for 140-150 which is twice as much

I have an enermax 1250 psu that kicks ass (electrical bills a bilch though), i can go for headphones if sound is annoying, but i dont know how heat translates to performance and overall issues

So besides heat, my only concerns are if a reference card, is weak compared to evga and rest, and also the statement of how it performs on gaming

Lots of people say that older series card are strong overall but stay behind on gaming. What does that mean. If i card is not as good atgaming where else is it used? On benchmarks

Save up the extra $30 and get some newer tech. Quieter, more efficient and it's brand spankin new... you don't know how much that 480 has been pushed and if it may die on you in a year or a few weeks.

Unless it's from someone you know or a reputable site I guess... a lot of my GPUs have been bought from the OCN marketplace, but I like to believe that what people post on here is pretty truthful compared to craigslist or ebay rolleyes.gif
