[BUILD LOG] First Case Labs case: Mercury S3

Im thinking of the name Spartan Rage!

Hi guys, I'm a long time lingerer in the forums, and built / rebuilt about 5-6 watercooled systems (most were with reused parts but with different cases). Ive been using Corsair cases, until I saw how much support Case Labs had been getting, so I had to try it out for myself. I wasn't ready to go all in so I ended up getting an S3 from @JLMS2010 and a pedestal from @TeamRushPaintball.

Im not sure what to do about my radiator situation. I could go with 2 280 UT60s in the pedestal, and a 240 XT45 and 280 XT45 in the main unit. I could use some advice.

I'm well aware that for a ITX mobo with a single 980Ti and a 4790k, 4 radiators is pretty much overkill but it would look awesome. On the other hand, I could use the S3 alone for now. I'm open to suggestions here...

In terms of the color scheme, I have a few ideas. So this is my current build

i'm going to transfer the CPU and GPU over, but I'll be switching to a Z87 stinger.

This is what I'm working with.

As you can see, there are some rolls of scotchprint and DiNOC. im thinking of covering the rad sides with the silver. I'm still debating, but I havent decided to cover the outside of the case with DiNOC. As much as i love carbon fiber, I am partial to the way the bare black case looks with just a few red accents. .

I have a few ideas here. I'm thinking of covering some of the internal case components (braces, mobo tray, pci inserts, midplates, etc) in red matte scotchprint, to give it an accent.

I'm calling this Spartan rage, because of the red and silver accents amongst the black, and I'm going to have a few stickers up in the case with the slogan Molon Labe (in Greek lettering).

I'd appreciate any advice, especially from veteran system builders, as I do still consider myself green.

Cheers!

Yea...Im partial to 140 based rads, but i didnt have a mount for the 280...

Seriously considering doing the S3 by itself without the pedestal though (no reason at all to have 4 radiators) lol.

Im waiting for a shipment from PPCs.com before I can really continue...Well I can but I have no time till the weekend...

There are many options to go for.

If your main goal is the max cooling performance then go for 4 rads.
If your main goal is silence then go for 4 rads.
If you also want aesthetics, then skip the top rad and go for windowed top panel.

If your main goal is to have the smallest build, then biggrin.gif that's the wrong case tongue.gif

In my case I did order the pedestal after I received the case and I do not regret. But I have only 3 x 280 rads inside with 1000rpm fans for silence. The top panel is windowed one for the show.

The only thing about the pedestal is the planning of the rooting for the tubing from the top chamber in order to have the best / friendliest maintenance possible.

That's the thing I love about case labs. There's so many options. One guy on here had an S3 with the Open top that I really should've pulled the trigger on but someone else ended up getting it. I might get the open top later on.

Tbh I needed a rad box initially so I saw an s3 pedestal and got it. Then I decided to just go itx so I picked up the s3. Not looking for the smallest box.

I might just use the s3 alone with the 280 + 240. I can use the pedestal later on or something. I only paid $90 so it didn't exactly break the bank lol. It's nice to have the option to get more cooling with the pedestal should I need it.

Got the color down for the case itself. I think it looks pretty good with matte red.
