Microsoft had Halo and Forza, but it's not like those games are something we don't have replacements for.
The best the industry has to offer is platform agnostic now.
It's an opinion. If PC gaming was the best, objectively speaking, consoles wouldn't exist.
I think the ps4 has a list of exclusives like
Gravity Rush 2
Little Big Planet
The Last Guardian
Kingdom Hearts 3
Ratchet & Clank
To which the PC exclusives can't compete with.
You're right, nothing can compete with nostalgia. That's pretty much all that those lists ever represent.
Part of my point is that the industry is changing. Consoles used to exist because they were easier to use, but today console games and operating systems need constant patching just like everything else. Consoles had proprietary hardware to at least try to do things PC couldn't, now they're all using the PC architecture (hopefully the NX follows).
At this rate Sony isn't doing much better than Nintendo at putting out content, a pace at which the exclusives can easily be forgotten. Nobody has time to keep play all the games coming out now anyway, it's unreasonable to expect people to play everything, you have to pick and choose.
I actually bought an Xbone even though I hate Microsoft. Why? To play fifteen year old games. I wanted to play Perfect Dark and Halo again. I have a Wii U too, so I'm probably still a hardcore console gamer, I just haven't bought any Sony products since... well I've never bought anything from Sony. Which is really what this thread is about, people who have an attachment to the Sony brand and don't want to feel like their decision is being invalidated. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post-purchase_rationalization
Which isn't to say there's anything wrong with Sony products or Gran Turismo. I'm probably going to buy Forza 6, there's lots to enjoy, but saying that you have a list of exclusive games that you have to play is kind of like saying everyone should own a Ford and a Chevy because they're both just so great.
