Alternatives to a Full cover block for HD 7990

Hello

I am thinking of water-cooling a HD- 7990 that I managed to pick up dirt cheap on eBay (very happy shopper BTW smile.gif), however I now realize that the Full cover blocks that were available for this card are no longer in stock anywhere and seem super rare.

So I was wondering if you kind people would be able to advise if the following would be suitable.

I was thinking to use two generic GPU blocks something like the Alphacool HF 14 ATI/NVidia Smart Motion Universal Copper Edition (http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/p/Alphacool-HF-14-ATINVidia-Smart-Motion-Universal-Copper-Edition_24998.html) and then placing some passive cooling on the ram and power parts (I have seen various Ram / Mosfet passive block kits on the same linked website) + some kind of fan / airflow over the card still to help the passive blocks.

In the absence of the full blocks being available, would you think this would be a good route to take?

A second question would then be, if I do take this route, how I should set up the path of the water through the two blocks? Should I route the water from GPU block one -> GPU block two. Or split the flow before the GPU blocks, too re-join after the blocks. My thought process being that heat from one is not passed to the other. Or would this be just over complicating the set up for little gain?

All this is going on in a Bit Fenix Prodigy, Tight I know, so I plan to have external Radiator(s).

Any thoughts would be very much appreciated.

I would get two of the Universal GPU blocks from Heatkiller or EKWB. They perform very well. Get some additional heatsinks for the VRMs and you will be golden.
