Yes, 3-pin fans will work. They are variable voltage. Only their plug is different.

Basic fan pin-out is the same for most 2-pin, 3-pin and 4-pin fans
4-pin is 1st grd, 2nd 12v, 3rd pin rpm and 4th pin PWM
3-pin is 1st grd, 2nd 12v and 3rd pin rpm
2-pin is 1st grd and 2nd 12v

a little note on pin-out and wire-colors... if you source 2nd hand (Delta) fans which served in DELL servers before.. Or new fans which fell of the back of truck which was heading for Dell.... take care smile.gif

Dell likes to follow their own standards and thus pins & wires are not always what you expect them to be. Best to trace them from the soldering point on the fan motor to be sure

Why do you need spend on parts and DIY if ALIexpress offers whole the stuff and sends to you for cheap? 10 bukz for 4-way controller or less. If you wish there are 'lights and digits' versions.

Because I'm building a custom desk and I want the dials built into it. Plus i want one control only.
