Want 2.1 speaker setup - Page 2

Much better off just using windows volume control and setting the speaker volume physically to 12 oclock (50%)

Well a In line RCA volume control can only lower input voltage, not make it higher. So no damage can be done.

And most people that are seriously using Monitors (for what they are intended for) will have a mixer.

Using Windows's volume control can be unreliable and backwards way of doing it IMO. Though I think I would go crazy without a physical nob I can turn that is not tied to my PC. Would drive me nuts trying to overclock a new system, just to have it bluescreen and send out a loud sound into my speakers I would need to reach behind to turn down.

Though I guess everyone has their own methods they enjoy.

A Mixer pretty much will act the same way a RCA in-line Volume control will.

Get a sub later, i would spend all money on good speakers first.
You allready have a good DAC so you can hook-up the speakers straight away and start playing.
Would be a shame to also include a sub in your budget because your budget allows a choice off great speakers if you leave the sub out.
Good speakers dont even need a sub IMO but thats more a personal thing......

I love active speakers from Adam and these fall in your price range:
http://www.amazon.com/ADAM-Audio-F5-Field-Monitor/dp/B00B6RJAIY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1446759336&sr=8-1&keywords=adam+f5

I have these myself:

Check reviews on the Adams ;-)

(most speakers are sold as single, not as a set.. keep that in mind)

For the price these are allright to IMO:
http://www.amazon.com/KRK-VXT6-Active-Studio-Monitor/dp/B000OY1GSW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1446759695&sr=8-1&keywords=krk+vtx6
and

or

or
http://www.amazon.com/Fostex-5-Inch-Professional-Monitor-Speaker/dp/B00CYNT95S/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1446760236&sr=8-2&keywords=Fostex+PX-5
and

Just a sample of speakers i like, nothing tops the Adam A5X and A7X though and in its price range nothing beats the F5 either. (again just my opinion)
Best thing is to go out and have a listen in the end wink.gif

Thats how i do it smile.gif

Pre-amp is nice if you have more sources then PC, i only use the PC on the monitors though.

Edit:
Crap i just noticed OP allready bought speakers doh.gif

Anyways enjoy your new speakers, seems like a set i would like to give a go myself to smile.gif

I went through all of the nice integrated desktop size 2.1 sets I could find, including Focal XS 2.1 and Bose.

The BlueSky set was only 500$ at the time, and that's what I went with. Not a day goes by I don't thank myself for getting them.
