Make sure to check, normally bookshelf speakers are sold as a pair. But I guess some websites are different. On Amazon UK they are sold as a pair. So maybe email the site you are buying from. As they should be for the pair

It's all cool.

The 3010 are too expensive. I just bought Q Acoustics 2010i from ebay + an AMP. If the AMP is not good enough then I will replace it in the future with something better. Judging from the reviews I've read the Q acoustics 2010i seem to be an amazing insider's tip. Thank you for that.

In the end I spent more than I would've liked to, but they were the most appealing to me and definitely do look "right". I didn't feel like I was doing a trade-off with the 2010i, but rather what I actually wanted smile.gif

IMO it will work out better in the long run.

Better to spend the money now on something you want to use for the next 5+ years than something you only will use for the next 2.

Plus you can always get better amps and dacs later on. Can always reuse the speakers on something else if you feel the need to upgrade at a later date. These are not things you can really do with computer speakers.

Add $30 to your $120 and you can get these

http://www.amazon.com/Presonus-Eris-E4-5-Powered-Monitor/dp/B00GP56OYA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1446737925&sr=8-1&keywords=eris+4.5

They sound damn good. I have them. They sound better than the promedias, which I also used to have. They are ok but the sub is pretty lame and farty sounding.

Here are a few videos about them:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2cFWPBN-Nc

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RfaOSYiPj7Q

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVkqeqQtdHM

They are quite decent speakers. You will be impressed. They are an order of magnitude better than the speakers you have, which I have on one of my PC's right now. They are junk. I got them for $14. The Presonus 4.5's are much much better.

You can't go wrong with this purchase I promise you. I have convinced 2 people on these forums to get them so far. Both have been pleased.

Thank you for your post, but I already have the Q Acoustics 2010i now smile.gif

What kind of AMP do you have there? it looks good!

Edit : I have a couple of questions if people don't mind

1) Is the size of an amplifier important? My mate says a big one is better. He can't explain why, but he says that some stuff inside a small AMP like SMSL AMPs can't be good enough.

2) What would be the best cable to connect to an AMP? RCA or Coaxial? Going from Soundcard to the AMP. Lots of wires I have connected in a tight area.

3) Does cable length matter? Speaker wire / RCA cables / Coaxial cables / SPDIF cables etc.

4) Any good AMPs in the price range of 100-150$ that have a remote and coaxial input and would be a good fit for the Q Acoustics 2010i?

( I am sorry that I have so many questions. I try to read as much as possible on that subject I can find on the net, but there are so many contradicting opinions and it is hard to get a clear answer.)

Thanks for the recommendation. I love them smile.gif

The downside is that it is more noticeable when a youtube video has bad audio quality biggrin.gif

That's total rubbish. At least the reason is. Larger transformers supply cleaner, more constant power. Other than that it's pretty much how the amp is designed, not the size.
But at the price level you're at sound quality should be the deciding factor not size..

2) What would be the best cable to connect to an AMP? RCA or Coaxial? Going from Soundcard to the AMP. Lots of wires I have connected in a tight area.

I'm kind of confused by that one as coax is only 2 conductor so a stereo (or any multi channel sound) would have to be encoded/decoded and that adds distortion. RAC on the other hand is a separate set of conductors for right and left channels.

3) Does cable length matter? Speaker wire / RCA cables / Coaxial cables / SPDIF cables etc.

Generally, interconnects (ie cables other that speaker) should be between 3 feet and 10 feet.

4) Any good AMPs in the price range of 100-150$ that have a remote and coaxial input and would be a good fit for the Q Acoustics 2010i?

Sorry, but and amp in that price range would only be a good fit with a garbage can.

The above comments are of a rather "audiophile" nature. At the price range you're looking at the sound quality of the amp will far outweigh anything else.

Once upon a time, a long time ago, probably before you and your brother were born, that was true. Amplifiers back then suffered from increased distortion as volume (or loudness on better equipment) increased. To get around that, audiophiles would use amplifiers that were dramatically oversized for the speakers they were driving so the volume setting on the amp could be kept as low as possible. Nowadays, the better amps no longer have that problem and are able to keep distortion at pretty much the same level throughout the volume range (the very top end still occasionally may suffer) so there is no need to size an amp for much more than you actually need to get the listening volume you want.

Ok good to know. Well I have 150$~ speakers so no idea how much I should spent on an AMP. I don't want to spend that much to be honest.

I was looking at the SMSL Q5. Is that a good one or total rubish for the can?

As to the question with the coaxial cable : I was reading this : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noise_floor and it says
