Overclocking problem

Hello guys.

I've been overclocking my cpu to 4.4ghz for almost 2 years but recently ran into a problem that prevents me from overclocking altogether.
The other day I took off my noctua cooler and the cpu in order to clean it with isopropyl alcohol and apply new thermal paste, because i wanted to try lowering temps a bit so i could overclock even more. Now whenever i start my pc with any cpu overclock it will freeze at the same point every time when loading the windows logo. Even if the overclock is just +0,1ghz it will freeze for instance 3.5 ghz oc. However i can "load optimized defaults" which automatically overclocks the cpu to 3.8 ghz and the pc will start just fine, but as soon as i adjust anything manually it will freeze.
Its getting plenty of voltage, temps are fine and I've tried changing all kinds of settings in BIOS.
Does anyone know of this issue, or could you guide me in how to identify the cause? Would really like to find out which of the components needs replacement.
Btw, at the same time the problem started (after cleaning my cpu) my Windows 7 crack stopped working as well, after which i formatted the pc with new OS.

Rig:
3570k
Asus p8z77-v Pro
corsair 1600 mhz 16gb
corsair ax 750 gold
msi 980 ti

Regards Thomas.

How high was your CPU voltage for the 4.4 GHz overclock?

It was at 1.240 mostly, and never above 1.250.
Kept temps below 80 degrees celcius when stress testing
