But again, and looking at the grand scheme of things on a regular user scenario - why is it suddenly a problem when Android, iOS, Mac OS and WP have been doing it for years?

I don't see it being bad for the regular user, I just really do not want to have to sit down with senors and go over the whole user interface again. tongue.gif

If Windows was like this from the start it wouldn't of been a big deal, but Windows was designed for businesses, and many users like having the same control over their environment as business would. For the regular user, I don't think Windows is locked down enough tbh, I just don't want to get locked out of anything. I'll probably just end up buying the enterprise version or getting a discount through my college.

I am genuinely scared to try to update my old year 2011 gaming laptop to Windows 10 for one reason, DRIVERS. MY MACHINE IS A TOSHIBA. THIS IS NOT GOOD IDEA. worriedsmiley.gif

This just shows how big of a cash cow W10 telemetry is that they are so hell bent on pushing everyone to Windows 10 for free...when they previously charged roughly $90 for earlier versions.

Granted I feel it shouldn't be some automatic download deal with it situation... I really enjoy Windows 10. 7 has that xp feel to it now. Old and time to go.

Not like they can disable windows updates either, the security updates are pretty essential to avoid some amount of exploitation. Not exactly the most business friendly option they had available, but I guess the IT departments are going to accept the changes and do it during hours that won't kill a work day; I guess it helps that it downloads windows 10 already....

Hmmm, I think for a business especially a big one they be using a dedicated WSUS server to manage patching and updates for their client systems. And, of course testing the updates inside of a sandbox first before pushing out onto other systems. Plus, think most embedded systems are still running XP versions or a heavily locked down version at least.

Than again, consumer and enterprise Windows are handle different when dealing with updates.

I just don't like the idea of not having full control of updates and patches on a OS. Plus, I tend to wait out since I'm not a early adopter anyways (Plus, my OG Titans stay on a older driver for folding reasons).

I'm curious though, once they make it recommended. Will it know for sure if it can install on certain computers and have no problems? I already know a few people who have computers that can't update because they run older hardware plus others who tried W10 and had it straight up crash or have driver issues.

O god, considering its toshiba...I would not take the chance. Though, I do have Ubuntu running fine on mine, plus it had no problems switching from a HDD to SSD too. (It came with 8, but ran like complete crap - was my parents but they did not want to deal with 8 at all)

Thinking to soon try Mint and Fedora out so I can get more experience using different distros. Still a newbie to Linux since I only started this year learning how to use it. So far it become the daily since it does so well at what I been using it for.

Super quick, I don't mean to highjack, but when you use s/pdif, your audio card does nothing. S/pdif is basically a bypass in order to outsource your audio processing to another device. I use it and love it even on windows (I paid money while drunk for that DAC, I'll beat my money out of it if I have to!), but yeah just small correction. You don't need any drivers for it to work to my knowledge.

Ok but you still need a volume control (pavucontrol for example) which talks with the pulseaudio server, to set the various volumes for any program / stream. That I think talks with the chipset, exposed by the driver (snd_hda_intel).

Stick with Windows 9. Best version yet. Not forced. Full privacy and no bugs. Awesome.

I really don't blame them at all. I understand some people don't want it while I don't get it I'll respect it, but from a business standpoint microsoft does not want to support 7,8 and 10. They want to get rid of as many of the older systems as possible and I would do the same if I was them. Its a lose lose for them, since if they just cut support people would complain or if they force upgrades people complain so they are choosing the lesser of evils in their eye.
