I have been in the process of switching over to Debian Linux, buying nothing but games that will run on Linux on steam for a while now. Sadly I will still need a windows VM for my dvd/bluray ripping software but other than that, Microsoft can shove it...

Don't like it, install Linux.

I run both Windows 10 and Linux. Each has their purpose. Windows 10 is better than Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 for gaming, which is all I use it for. When I'm not gaming, I use Linux.

But bottom line, you don't OWN Windows ANYTHING ... not 95, 98, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, or 10. You never did, you never will. Deal with it.

Don't like being reminded of that fact, switch to Linux. Enjoy gaming on a purely Linux system. If you are smart, you will dual boot (or like me, get a removable drive cage and have 2 separate drives, one for each OS, so that no one can spy on the other).

Also, be sure to throw away your smart phone, and all your other smart devices too. You won't want to be a hypocrite about using something that you don't own and how the real owner does what they want with their software. Also, be sure to tweet and post on Facebook about your outrage ... and be forced to adhere to their rules on their software too.

The reality is, everyone WILLINGLY uses software that doesn't belong to them and is changed without their permission. Why people rant about one company doing it is pretty amusing to me.

Windows can't spy on linux since it doesn't ship with the ability to read linux file systems.

As for smartphones, Android phone bootloaders are unlockable which allows the ability to uninstall Google's version of Android and install the stock Open Source version...without Google spying. Open source is a wonderful thing. biggrin.gif

It's real pity that my Vista licence is only 32 bit as I'd make rollback to it as my main gaming machine. I guess i'll have to make small HTPC with it for browsing/media machine and keep desktop as gaming only machine

Really beginning to not like Microsoft or anything to do with it. Glad I never paid for a single copy of Windows in my life and especially never will now, assuming they even make any more versions. Already planning on downgrading back to 8.1 when I find the time.

Also, inb4 someone begins to cry about why I should be using Linux instead or ranting about how Windows can do whatever they want. A) I don't have to and B) There are things companies should not do if they want to keep their customers happy, and Windows is doing a lot of them. Between working multiple jobs, having a social life, and going back to school the only thing I really ever even use my PC for anymore is music, gaming, and p..you know.

I have turned off Automatic Updates for a long time. This is why having control to what updates to get is important. Until MS reverses course (or someone figures out a way to hack the update system in Win10), I will keep using Win7.

I actually just went to look up if there are ways to block updates. There actually ways to do so even on Home editions (label your connection as metered), plus there is a tool you can download to hide updates. But seems Professional edition get more control than the others. Since you can use Local GPO and Registry to block the auto updates.

I'm only piss off that my 7 Enterprise version don't get free upgrade...as I would actually upgrade that one since I would be able to have way more control on its security and update policy.

I no longer provide support to relatives running anything above Windows 7. I am done with it. All I do is hear them complain and I tell them I don't want to hear it. One of them (more to follow, I'm sure) is buying a new laptop with Windows 7 on it. I also re-installed 7 on my nieces desktop (after she finally found the disk and key). I had to laugh at her when she said, "It's a desktop, not a !@(#&!$ phone with a touch screen".
