Which Console to Get?

Thread Starter
Hey everyone,

I'm currently abroad without my PC, probably for at least another year, maybe 2, and I'm itching to do some gaming.

Since I've already destroyed Shovel Knight, Super Meat Boy, Volgarr the Viking and Darkest Dungeon, some of the finest indie games out there, I'm thinking of getting a console.

The obvious choices are Wii U and PS4, at least for me. Size is an issue, because I'm basically living out of a suitcase, and the XBox just seems a lesser (yet bulkier) PS4 with no exclusive games in which I'm interested.

Games I want to play:

Wii U

Windwaker HD, Skyward Sword HD (if that exists...), the new Zelda (if that ever comes out on Wii U...)
DKC Tropical Freeze (and DKC1-3 on virtual console)
Super Mario Maker

PS4:

Bloodborne (!!!)
DS2, DS3
The Last of Us Remastered
Diablo 3
Witcher 3
MGSV

Is it true that you can use the Wii U to play games on the gamepad and Netflix on the big screen at the same time? I would find that very surprising.

What's holding me back from getting the PS4 is the fact that most of the games I could play on PC at better FPS when I get home...

Which one would you pick?

Cheers!

Really a trade off for what you want out of it in the long VS short run I suppose.

The PS4 is going to have more serious content for while you're out of a PC, the Wii has the potential to be a community game machine for company down the road.
Another factor is which games do you value most that are on each console (or will come out for it)?

I'd like to have a Wii for the fun games and it's good for company, but I've always had Playstations too and there are some exclusives which I'd still want.
Couple that with the fact that (as I got older) I don't hang out and play games with my friends as much - I took the option that suited my needs more.

Hope that helps a bit (really up to you) with the decision.

Don't betray you PC like that, jk. But seriously isn't it quite a waste of money to buy PS4 plus games just for one year?

I would do that in a heartbeat if any of the games I want to play and that are announced were actually available.

Darkest Dungeon would be so cool on Vita, but it comes out 'at some point in 2016'.
Salt and Sanctuary ditto.
Might No 9 ditto.

I don't think there's anything interesting on the Vita for the meanwhile.

Might be one, might be two, no way to know yet. And it's not like the PS4 suddenly becomes useless or worthless after that.

Thanks for the thorough reply!

I don't know anyone who plays games here, so that's not much of a factor.
The game I want to Co-Op the most is Diablo 3 anyway, that looks SO fun with a controller!

So yeah, I think it's going to be the PS4.

I own the Wii U, PS4 and a gaming PC. Personally, I'd grab the wii U if I were you. The playstation 4 has got very little usage (a bit of cod for a week, bloodborne and the list ends there)

On the other hand the wii U always seems to bounce back and grab my attention. It's easy to pick up and play (wii u pad saves the hassle of inputs and occupying a main display), games have great replay value and it has full backwards compatibility with the original wii.

In terms of the netflix thing i haven't really tried it haha

Thanks for the reply.

I was about to pull the trigger on a PS4, now you're making me reconsider again!

'Fully backwards compatible' is only true if you have all sorts of wiimotes as well, doesn't it?
And can you play every WiiU game using the Pro controller if you don't feel like using the giant tablet / gamepad?

Haha sorry if i made the decision that much harder rolleyes.gif

You just need the standard wii mote and that's about it for backwards compatability. The wii U comes with the wii sensor bar.
In terms of the tablet you can definitely use a pro remote or better yet one of those nintendo character remotes (essentially a gamecube controller). Only game i've come across forcing the use of the game pad is splatoon and i THINK mario maker when you're making the courses.

Alright, that's not too bad.

At this point I think I'm just going to have to toss a coin.

You could probably give me a thousand good reasons for the Wii U and they still wouldn't quite make up for DS2 / DS3 and Bloodborne.
