For how new and smaller cdpr is, I think they did a phenomenal job on witcher 3. Also, consider that this is cdprs first major game, not many played the first, and I'm sure the second wasn't well publicized aside from people who had played the first.
Of course a studio with more than double the amount of games is going to have a more polished launch.
Well yeah, it isn't silly to compare the two, especially when we're talking about a few awards between -all- games of the year, not just one. I only compare because I think it's the only other one that'll come close. CD Projeckt has been around since 1994, although they did nothing but ports ( Which were crappy and sub-standard, you only have to look at the PC port of Saints row 2 ) they also admitted to spending more than half of the games budget on advertising. To me, "the witcher" was well publisied, in fact I dare say it was -OVER- publicised at least for the third part of it. It isn't our fault, as gamers that a company that runs GoG.com can't handle money ( I believe it was 30mil for the game 45 mill on PR ). TW1 wasn't all that well known but TW2's stunning graphics were what gained it noteriety. After forcing myself to play through TW1, I can say the only part that interested me was the outskirts of Vizima. After that it became as boring as the LotR books, it seemed like a political thriller with the odd side-quest about monsters ( I particulally liked the brothel mistress quest ) TW2 once again, started strong but faded after a few hours, graphically it was impressive but it got boring and bogged down in politics. I hear the books are great but hard to find translated, which is another downfall not to mention, I shouldn't have to buy books to enjoy the game. I've been in TW3 for 70 hrs, over what is "Standard" for an RPG ( Usually touted as 30-60hrs ) and I can't help but feel how dead the world is, masses of fields of ... nothing but reagents. Playing on anything under "Hard" difficulty is a cakewalk without preperation for fights and all I hear about is this one "Baron" quest line is there nothing else in this game?

Witcher 3 had a good launch, the only thing being bad was the performance of hairworks feature, comparing it anything close to watchdogs is hilarious.
Your whole argument fell apart because you had to add that 1 line where you basically insult the whole playerbase of the game not to mention insult the game itself.
Yes it had boobs, it also had an interesting story and quests, good characters, a really cool world to explore, a ton of monsters to fight and much much more.
Well first off, it was a personal thought that I added in because .. well lets face it. Thats what the majority of the people whom voted in this award would've gotten it for. Now I apologise to you if you felt insulted by my insunation Assirra, it wasn't personally aimed at you and was a generalisaion of how I saw things. I get sterotyped because I play World of Warcraft, sadly it is something that happens and I meant no insult to the many great RPG players out there. It was more of a derogatory jab at the younger generations that play games because of the X-rated content than for the gameplay / technical prowess of a game.
I liked it to Watch dogs because they both were downscaled, both had a bad launch and both included Nvidia's Gameworks that held back the game. CDPR did do a much, much better job than Ubisoft but they had a lot more riding on the success of the game. CDPR could've taken the same road as Rockstar, who the hell would've minded if they said "We're releasing the XB1 and PS4 versions now but the PC version has to be held back for polish" then use the Console profits to polish the PC version? Instead they release along all three platforms, tell people crap about "Filters on the video" and widespread banning, even going so far as to try to reach the Reddit boards to squash the downgrade rumours.
From my own experiance, I have a day 1 collectors edition with the statue of TW3. I managed 55fps on release day with 2x 7870 6GB Vapor-X's and a 3770k @ stock 3.5Ghz ( Full graphics inc. hairworks on an AMD card ). I will, one day, get back to the game and play it through again. Like XAsianX said, when it's patched and sorted, maybe I'll change my mind then. As it stands they handled this horribly, did the wrong thing ( which was lash out at the community for guessing they were lying to us ) and still released it in a horrible state. The release was rushed because they ran out of money but then again .. it was -their- choice to start TW3 on their budget, it was -their- choice to spend the money how they wanted too. As pointed out by JHTMFreak quoted above, this was all CDPR's decision and thus they're getting praised. They're even touting on their website "The industry leader in creating Role-playing games" .. how arrogant?
It was sad to open that collectors edition and to get a little card inside reading:Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Especially when the poop-storm of the downgrade was at it's highest.
Don't get me wrong, I feel for the guys that had little todo with the management and put their all into the game as I've said. It isn't the worst game by any stretch of the imagination ( Colonial Marines anyone? ) but it isn't deserving of everything it got, maybe an award because the small team tried so hard but I still long for the day when we'll see the trailer graphics in this game even that blood splatted that stayed in the water they promised they'd give us.

"It's the principle"
"They shouldn't have shown it like that in the first place"
Comments like these are harder to not role ones eyes at compared to maybe "It's unoptimised" "I have to run at medium on my 780 Ti".
Very hard for me personally to give anyone the time of day who feels that way given I've put 150 hours into it and there are still things I want to do in the game. And people wonder why we're always normally the least important...I couldn't possibly imagine why.
Well, on principle I will never shop at GoG.com because of CDPR lying to me about TW3. Roll your eyes all you want but it is my choice to do that!
I currently have 627 hours on Skyrim and I -still- haven't completed the main storyline and finding things to do. I love these open-world RPG's because of that. Spending £120 at launch for the Collectors edition box set means Incredible value for money! However TW3 lacks a lot of the customisation the other games have because of it being "locked" into the book's storyline. If it was done more from a Mass effect / Dragon age where "Geralt" was an undetermined genderless hero and you could choose I think I would like it a lot more. That's mainly because, as a woman, I roll my eyes at the Yennifer / Trish / Geralt "love triangle" and I think it's contrived, convoluted plotline. I'm a MONSTER HUNTER and in the end it turns out Geralt is the biggest monster of them all.
If we didn't complain, they'd just roll over us all again. You only have to look at the other industries that have little complaints, they hike prices and release rubbish expecting you to pay for it. I don't like being lied to and every dev that has done that is on my blacklist that I don't buy from again. Yes, it is a long list and it get's longer by the year, pretty much only Bethesda games are off it. At least I know what I'll be getting with it, nothing spectacular because it'll be a console-parity game. It's because they're open-world massive games. I feel I'm standing up for what I believe in, I'll put up with FO3, FO:NV, Skyrim, Just cause 2, Mad max .. all great games I have no major complaints about so I think I am "Easy" as far as things go but CDPR didn't do the right thing, they went the way of Gearbox with Colonial Marines burying the bad by being silent, at least CDPR didn't abandon it .. but they couldn't. They did what Gearbox did and focussed on their "Main game" just so happens TW3 is the only game CDPR can do.
