New Build Budget $4500 - Looking for Advice - Page 2

Go for bling, if it's what you want. I went with top tier Z97 components because it was either top tier Z97 or X99 at the time, and I couldn't afford the Godlike Gaming/5960X/Dominator DDR4. From what my experience is, I'd recommend splurging on the CPU and using 1 video card, also choose an expensive, high-quality case with that budget - perhaps an In Win S-Frame. H110 GT > H100GTX. For a PSU, I would recommend a Dark Power Pro 11 1000W, look into that. Do NOT cheap out on the motherboard, a high-quality motherboard is something you will never have buyer's remorse for. There's no need for a Sound Card with that board you've chosen.

When you have $4500 why would you buy a cheap and crappy Corsair AIO? he should get a Swiftech or EK AIO instead when he can spend that much.
And while the Be Quiet Dark Power Pro P11 is not bad its overpriced and there are better options for less money, and most of those will make less noise at lower loads.

Again why should anyone spend more to get something that is worse?

You could save 100+ going with more reasonable ram but sometimes we buy things because they are pretty. I know the dominators have no value beyond the name and looks but the aesthetic is REALLY nice.

Fair enough but the point about 3000 MHz not always working with 5820K CPU´s still stands, you can get 2666 MHz Dominator kits.
Still way overpriced if you ask me but hey if you like spending money on bling fair enough.

Absolutely don't cheap out on the motherboard but spending more than 3-350 on a motherboard isn't really needed. He's not going to see any real difference between a sabertooth and a board that costs 200 more. If sound is something he really cares about buying a 2-300 dollar motherboard and then getting a DAC/AMP is way better.

If your IMC is weak and can't take it, won't the 3000MHz kit simply run at a slower XMP profile?
If this is the case, I see a string of reason to hope for a stronger IMC and get the faster kit. With RAM often overclock isn't linear to performance, and sometimes is even detrimental. AFAIK Platinums have a bit more carefully crafted default configuration which optimizes throughput.

I just chose the 3000 because the 2666 is $10 more.

Yep the 2666Mhz kit is 189.99. http://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-memory-cmd16gx4m4a2666c15

However, you could probably spend $3k and have a machine with the same seat-of-the-pants capability. Meaning the use of a $3,000 rig and a $4,500 rig in usage minus benching would be indistinguishable.
