as far as intake, it really depends on the need and placement of your rig. if you are going to use roof intake to supply cool air to your HSF, then take care not to place your case in a semi enclosed area such as under a desk so you don't get recirculation of heat. (heat exhausted out of the back gets trapped by the desktop, side of the desk, and back wall, then sucked back into the case by the roof intake)
obviously if you are going to use roof intake, you'd want to place the intake fan in front of the HSF so the cool intake air is sucked in by the intake fan of the HSF.

the number of fans used depends on the need of your rig. i can't really tell you which way is best in terms of balancing the cooling needs vs the acoustic cost of adding a fan. the problem with adding too many fans that run at similar speeds is you run into harmonic amplification of the noise. so sometimes it's better to run some fans slightly faster/slow so they don't run into a "harmonic symphony" problem of the "vooom, vooom, vooom, vooom," noise from the chassis. you'd want to keep things below 1200RPM if possible, that seems to be the threshold where noises become noticeable (obviously it also depends on the quality of fan used) you also want to avoid spinning the fans below 500RPM because below that speed, the fan is generating such low static pressure it has a hard time pulling any air pass the resistance generated by the air filter. (no do NOT remove the air filter. it's what keeps your system healthy)

so, at the end of the day, all i can do is inform you of things you need to know and you have to make the decisions yourself as to how you want to build your system. smile.gif

currently on bios uefi my noctuA D15 Fans are spinning at about 250 rpm at idle temp 38-40C
and my case fans are spinning phanteks 140mm = 400 rpm exhaust and all my 120mm fans 4 of them . on front x2intake and bottom intake x2 . at 550 rpm.
is that fine? i set temp idle for CPU up to 45C and allfans at their lowest rpm possible anything before 45C on cpu temp. before it start spinning from the fan lowest rpm all the way to max at 70C

a D15 has absolutely no problems cooling an idle system passively... 250RPM is barely moving any air at all anyway so you might as well turn the fans off at idle. have the system kick the fans on at maybe 45C and start it off at around 500RPM and ramp up from there.

floor fans doesn't need to be on either till your GPU reaches 48 - 50C since the floor fans are designated to supply cooling air for the GPU so those fans will feed off the thermal sensor you have taped to the back of the GPU. however i would start these at 1000RPM since they only kick on when your GPU needs cooling and GPU tend to need cool air rather quickly when it actually needs it. worst thing you can do is let your GPU bake because once that happens your whole system becomes an oven biggrin.gif

front intake fans and rear exhaust are the fans you want staying on at all times when the system is on. it's what is going to keep a fresh supply of air going through the case while just browsing the net or watching youtube. run them at a min of 500RPM and ramp up as your CPU gets warmer.

just as a reminder that the roof exhaust should be near the back of the case where the exhaust of the HSF is. you don't want to pull cool air out from where the HSF's intake is.
