I just read what I posted yesterday and holy crap I must have been way off my game. I barely explained anything about the SATA drivers. Yikes. I apologize.
No problem, you help me alot i truly appreciate it.

I don't know what the "Path" one is, but I know that you want Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver software.

Can you show me the page you found this on?

When you install it, the driver will be installed along with the light software. The software isn't absolutely necessary and I could show you how to make it stop starting with Windows if you end up wanting to do that.

Remember though, you can only install this if you have your drives connected to the Intel SATA ports.

Oh yeah, I know what that is. Duh. lol Sorry about that. You want this! Again though, you won't be able to get this to work if your drives aren't on the Intel-controlled SATA ports.

If I'm seeming rather spacey and stupid, that's because I'm dealing with a super low-end frequency hum from some construction site a quarter of a mile away and it's driving me insane. It's exactly like having a huge diesel truck idling right outside the house and it's been going non-stop for the past 4 hours. I've heard of people literally going insane from being exposed to this sound for too long and I always thought that it was because those people were just weak or something, but OMG.

Sorry. I guess I needed to vent that out a bit.

haha no problem. id understand. opposite my house theres construction going on for a year. building new houses smile.gif so id understand lol.
by the way some argue that Intel rapid storage technology driver software have no increase performance? especially with a single ssd and no hdd? comparing to just not installing any sata drivers. and it takes some time to load up when windows is booted up?
yeah my sata is always in the intel storage. i shouldve mention pages ago. but yeah is on the intel smile.gif

If you don't install Intel's Rapid Storage Technology driver, then you will be using Microsoft's generic AHCI driver which is inferior. If you don't like Intel's Rapid Storage Technology driver though, you can always uninstall it.

I want to install the intel Driver over microsoft generic ahci driver. but i dont like the software, is the a solution for tha ?
when you mean uninstall it that means it will just run microsoft generic ahci driver right? like intel RST was never installed?
and im currently on windows 7 pro 64bit, i plan to upgrade to windows 10 pro 64bit.
how do i go about, with fresh install of the windows 7.
which driver should i install during windows 7 and which should i install only after when windows 10 is done. or in any case i have to install both in windows 7 and windows 10?

Yep. You'd just make a couple of simple changes. One change is in Services.msc and the other is in the Registry. The changes make the software no longer start with Windows, which I have done because I don't need it.

Yeah, just like uninstalling a video card driver; it just reverts back to the generic Microsoft driver.

You might be overthinking this. Just enjoy Windows 7 for however long you want to use it, set it up as thoroughly as you want and then when you are ready for Windows 10, perform the upgrade through Windows Update. Then when you have Windows 10, any drivers you install will have to be compatible with Windows 10 - so it will be very straightforward. I think you have nothing to worry about. Windows 10 is supposed to be extremely friendly to computer-illiterate people, so it should be a cakewalk for you.

Edit: I fixed "Services.msi" to be "Services.msc".

Thanks you so much! all your answer have been straightforward and helpful smile.gif.
one last thing ow do you change the service.msi and registry so that annoying software never start but intel driver is installed?
that you've done.

You're very welcome!

In Services.msc, you will just need to double-click "Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology" and then change its Startup type to either "Manual" or "Disabled". Setting it to "Disabled" means that you won't be able to open it yourself if you ever wanted to for some reason, and setting it to Manual just means that it will only open if you open it yourself.

In the Registry, go to this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

In the right-hand pane, delete "IAStorIcon".

If making this change in the Registry worries you, then right-click the Run key first and choose "Export". Export this .reg file to any location you want and give it any name you want. Double-clicking this .reg file later will overwrite the existing Run key with the one that you exported.

Even if you don't do any of this, the driver will always be installed and in use.

Edit: I fixed "Services.msi" to be "Services.msc".
