[Forbes] - Microsoft Admits Windows 10 Automatic Spying Cannot Be Stopped

Last week changes to the Windows 10 upgrade path mean it is going to become increasingly difficult for any non-techy users to avoid being pushed to Microsoft’s new operating system. But given Windows 10 is better than Windows 7 and Windows 8, why would that be a problem? Because of policies like this…

Speaking to PC World, Microsoft Corporate Vice President Joe Belfiore explained that Windows 10 is constantly tracking how it operates and how you are using it and sending that information back to Microsoft by default. More importantly he also confirmed that, despite offering some options to turn elements of tracking off, core data collection simply cannot be stopped:

“In the cases where we’ve not provided options, we feel that those things have to do with the health of the system,” he said. “In the case of knowing that our system that we’ve created is crashing, or is having serious performance problems, we view that as so helpful to the ecosystem and so not an issue of personal privacy, that today we collect that data so that we make that experience better for everyone.”

This backs up detailed data that some had chosen to dismiss as conspiracy theories.

wow, lol.

So even MS own VP has the audacity to basically give it's customers the big middle finger - publicly.

Real classy, there. You guys are doing a bang up job of pushing a good chunk of your user base towards other OS alternatives.

The telemetry he's talking about is basically automating drwatson. Most users don't send crash reports, so Windows 10 just does it without asking you because that information is super useful to MS trying to bugfix compatibility issues with 10.

Except Microsoft is about to make that impossible for your every-day user since they're making the Windows 10 "Upgrade" a standard update that will be automatically installed.

We can not be sure that is the only data they are collecting, we can not be sure that what they say they are doing with that data is actually what they are doing with it.

Have you not heard of "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" tale?

Also, Dr Watson had an OFF SWITCH that actually turned it off, unlike Cortana and whatever other malware M$ stuck in it's bowels.

Once again, as has been stated....

When you go to the lowest level of reporting, it just sends basic crash reports and other hardware/system related issues. Although it really doesn't matter, people are going to believe what they believe. I will continue to enjoy Windows 10.

I still haven't upgraded to Win10 on my sig rig mostly just because I don't like the direction the UI went after Win8. I have my start screen set up just the way I like with custom tiles (Oblytile) and just don't want to give that up. The "spying" stuff doesn't really bother me but I've always been of the opinion that any settings in an OS ought to be able to be turned on or off by the end user. MS may own the rights to the software but they do not own my PC...

Exactly what any Trojan will do, gather all information related to your PC software usage and send all that information away to some other "TRUSTED" location, to be examined and used at their leisure.

Now watch all the banking and log in details be hoovered up and used. Unfortunately even if you change your pass words and log-ins every day, it ALL shall be passed on to Redmond due to Windows 10 ability to record every key-stroke used on your installation, just like any nefarious Trojan.

Definitely the MOST dangerous Operating System yet released by them, because basically there is NO security at all and no way of keeping any of your passwords and log-ins safe from intruders whatsoever.

So all we have to do is TRUST Microsoft will not use any of our gained information for evil intent. RRRRRiiiigggghhhhhttttttt axesmiley.png .

This is just pure, undiluted paranoia. Seriously? You think MS is trying to steal people's bank accounts? rolleyes.gif
