no i just lived under bolsheviks and had my family persecuted and spied on. but hey thats probably something you cannot comprehend.

sadly in 2 years it will be 100 years since great october revolution and we can already now proclaim, that Bolshevism has conquered the west
one thing to note, the party always laughed a lot at true believers, who actually believed into their koolaid

A lot of people who have an issue with this 'spying' seem to be of the opinion that Microsoft is totally untrustworthy and wont to outright lie to it's customers. This rather extreme position is a little harder to take seriously, but supposing they are prepared to lie about what data is being transferred, why is it suddenly an issue with Windows 10? Why wouldn't you have been voicing the same discontent over Windows 7 etc? 7 still communicated with remote servers, and sometimes inexplicably.

For example, when you run certain games, games explorer (gameux.dll), via rundll32.dll, connects to a remote server (this particular instance is well known, because a bug causes the operation to hang rundll32.dll if the server can't be reached, ie. there is no internet connection, effectively preventing games from launching on offline systems). It persists in this communication even when you have configured games explorer NOT to download any information in the options panel. There was no good reason for it to connect, but it still did. No one ever made a deal over that kind of communication in Windows 7.

Also, would you never conduct a Microsoft product activation? That's them collecting and storing data. They say explicitly that it's not personally identifiable, but hey, if Microsoft are bunch of liars then they could be collecting anything, right?

For the record, I'm on the fence as to whether this mandatory Windows 10 "safety and reliability data" is a problem or not, and in favor of an option to disable it completely.

MS and NSA sittin in a tree....... biggrin.gif:rolleyes:
I don't care to give some of my non intrusive data (like search history,ad clicks etc) to a company if it offers me free services as long as they are honest. MS is not honest that's what bothered me. The other thing that pissed me off is that I tried to make a clean install of W10 and 4 times in a row Windows forced on me Nvidia drivers I didn't want. I couldn't stop it even with the MS tool that blocks some WU updates. WU updates have no patch notes which I really hate. Windows activation on W10 is a nightmare. Tried to upgrade a laptop to 10 and W10 failed to auto activate 2 times. No matter how many restarts I did. W10 are good but those shady tactics from MS already killing it. Also MS decided to decrease OneDrive storage for everyone down to 5GB. That's lame and I started using it but I fully switched to G. Drive now. Stupid things like this already have a toll on W10 reputation and adoption rates. They are trying to mimic Google but they failed already. Windows 10 is not free at all. The license key is tied to your hardware configuration and you can't even upgrade any pc part without the fear of rendering your activation void. We already have some horror stories about voiding activation after a bios update or upgrading RAM. Those things are really stupid. I really like W10 but those decisions from MS already killing it.

Yeah, the forced updates situation is a far bigger scandal than the privacy thing if you ask me, yet it get's a tenth of the coverage.

It even gets less coverage than MS trying to push Windows 10 onto 8/7 users. Don't those people realize that if they don't oppose forced updates in 10, then when they finally end up having to use it any future operating systems really will be forced on them, and this time it will be more than just an inconvenience or matter of principle because they won't be able to do anything about it.,

Also, laughs are to be had at everyone in this thread advocating privacy. All of them presumably own a cell phone made in the last ten years with a GPS function that can be remotely enabled by the service provider. All calls have been logged, and that's been going on since the 1960s with land lines, but whatever. You fight you good fight folks. Keep shining on crazy diamonds.

Exactly!

I left out the reference to Apple on purpose, as it tends to set people off by simply mentioning them.

The PRISM surveillance program is real. If you think it's OK, then no big deal.

Oh, wow. The tinfoil is real.

The NSA, no matter their program name, is going to hoover up all of your data at every possible point.

Windows 10 and the NSA's spying have as much to do with each other as my tea and the NSA. The hilarity being, to the NSA, it is all the same and just as important.

Don't want the NSA knowing what you are doing? You will literally need to go off-grid, and I am talking the back-wood self sustaining level of off-grid. Or as I like to say sometimes, things we used to do for fun before the Internet!
