Fan orientation for Air 540

post #1 of 4
Thread Starter
hey guys I need some help, i have a corsair air 540 and right now im running one 140mm fan in exhaust and then running 3 120mm in the front as intake and 2 120mm on the top with the radiator along with 2 140mm on the bottom of the radiator to run push pull because I didnt have 2 more 120mm (ALL as intake). Is my intake and exhaust orientation fine? I feel like 5 120mm intakes and 2 140mm intakes is a bit too much intake in comparison to the one exhaust. Any suggestions?

I would suggest you change the top radiator fans to exhaust

is your GPU or CPU watercooled ?
If WC'd CPU and a hot air cooled GPU then I'd go 3x120 front intake, 2x120mm push pull on the top 240mm radiator (set similarly to exhaust top fans, blowing outside the case) and 140mm exhaust on the back. This 140mm exhaust is the one that has to deal with 90% heat dumped from the air cooled GPU. The 240mm rad fans will have plenty of fresh air from the intake fans.

But 540 is so good for airflow that as long as you have 2x140mm or 3x120mm front intake you can do whatever with the rest of the setup and it'll be fine.

This.

Word of advice...

I had 3 x 120mm fans as intake, and 2 x 120mm fans as top exhaust on my H100i rad. I noticed that I was getting a lot of noise generated by my top 120mm front intake. I have since disabled it and greatly reduced my systems fan noise. My setup now looks like this...

Red = Exhaust , Blue = Intake

Not sure if my top fan is defective or what, but, might want to test with a top 120mm intake on and off if you notice a lot of fan noise.
