PS It never crashed.

However...

Under Asrock, CPU hit 65.5C and I stopped it. There is also CPU PCEI under Asrock, that was at 40C max.

Forget PCEI, i don't remember what that is, but i remember in HWMonitor there is always a fixed 40C reading that never changes, ignore it.

Go ahead and let it run, as long as you don't hit 70C. One run won't harm it. If you pass at Very high, then you can actually go in BIOS and reduce vcore 1 notch and repeat. As long as you pass IBT you can reduce voltage. You need the lowest vcore possible, where you can pass IBT. Then, if you also pass Prime, you 're good.

Overclockers here go past 70C, i just don't like it, because i consider it bad in general. But, for stressing purposes, it won't kill the CPU if you do it only a few times, don't worry. The good thing is that there is likely no program that you will run that will stress the CPU so much again to get those temps.

What you see is: core is at 50.5C and "CPU temp" is at 65C. This is typical Asrock. They cause higher "CPU temp"s than other motherboards, it's something you have to live with. But, as long as you stay below 70C, go on and run IBT.

Maximum is OK, it just uses more RAM than Very High. I prefer Very High because it's a bit faster and didn't notice difference with Maximum and you have Prime95 waiting to take its turn too and Prime is more thorough and relentless.

Just don't bother with Standard or High, because they aren't stressful enough.

I got the unstable error message due to heating. Asrock hit 71.5 max at one point.

What's my next step? Reduce the voltage?

Also, should I clean out the inside of my tower? It's probably insanely dusty at this point. How can I clean the heatsink without compressed air?

I don't know what you mean by "unstable message due to heating". IBT doesn't say anything about heat. It just fails... When it fails, you need more voltage. What's your current voltage while you run IBT as seen in HWInfo?

You have 2 options basically.

1) Keep shooting for 4.1 and increase voltage until you pass. You can either a) ignore the high temp or b) put a small fan to blow on the VRM section of the motherboard (the little heatsink behind the CPU socket).

2) Reduce to 4Ghz and see if you pass there, possibly with less voltage too. This will decrease heat a bit.

Alrighty. All 10 passes in IBT passed and I ran prime95 all night with no errors. I believe that's stable enough for me smile.gif

I ended up at 4.1 ghz / ~1.3v I believe.

Am I all good now?
