GOG/Steam question

So I got a free code for either Rainbow Six Siege or AC: Syndicate for GOG.

Will I be able to play with my steam friends in multi-player on Rainbow if I have it for GOG and they have steam?

I'm assuming no, right?

There's no way two Ubisoft games are on GOG which is a no DRM platform. I'm guessing you mean Uplay which is Ubisofts DRM platform. Ubisoft games you purchase through Steam always have to be activated on Uplay anyway, so it shouldn't make any difference. It's possible they have changed this, but it's been this way for quite a while.

Anno 2205 which came out a couple of days ago still uses Uplay so it's unlikely to change for these two games. You'll be missing out on things like Steam achievements, but actual online play will be together.

No that is not what I mean. Got free codes from Nvidia to redeem at GeForce.com and most likely to be downloaded through GOG (haven't been home yet to use codes but that's how I had to download the free Witcher 3 back in the summer).

The Nvidia code is for Uplay, not GOG. The Witcher 3 code was for GOG because CDPR the creators of The Witcher 3 own GOG so it goes to their platform. I also got my copy of the Witcher 3 from a GOG code.

The one you are talking about is for two Ubisoft games. Thus, they go to Uplay which is their platform. As I mentioned, GOG is a no DRM platform. Ubisoft is the biggest supporter of DRM that there is. They would never allow a newer game on GOG. The only titles you tend to see on GOG are older ones and indie titles. Major triple A titles don't go to GOG because they think their titles will lose a ton of sales since they don't have DRM.

So I would be able to play with friends who bought it on steam then? Multi-player wise.
I just redeemed my code yesterday, the games redeem to Uplay as Viscerous says.

To answer your question yes you will be able to play with friends if they buy it off Steam as it will still require Uplay to launch just like all recent Ubisoft games.

Syndicate doesn't even have multiplayer in the first place. Rainbow 6 has to be activated on Uplay no matter which version you have as you can see on the Steam page. Look next to the add to cart button.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/359550/

Like I said, you will not have access to anything Steam related for Rainbow 6. You won't unlock Steam achievements or trading cards if it has them. It won't show your activity to friends. However, all the actual in game content such as multiplayer will be the same as it all goes through Uplay and not Steam.
