This guy speaks the truth. I was thinking about same thing and went x99. I will probably get a 8 core in the near future if directx12 delivers so this 6 core will keep me happy for a while. Also I get better temps than my 4.8 3570k processor. Running at 4.5 1.25v and always stay under 70c.

I wanted to add something.
If you are comfortable with delidding, the Skylake may give enough clock to pull ahead.

Bad news guys.... I decided to go with the 6700k. I really liked the look of the gigabyte g1 gaming 7 z170. Going for a mostly white internal look. Also I saved over a 100 bucks doing so. So that's what did it. Microcenter had a combo deal going for that set up. I jumped on it. For there being nearly no differance in gaming between the 5820k and the 6700k.

I went that route purley on looks and savings. Would have been cool to say I have a x99 no doubt but this just made more sense to me considering I would never use the full potential of the 5820k. 100 wasted is no good for me. I do enough of that with my other hobbies lol. Thanks for the help everyone! thumb.gif

Maybe. I've never done it. Once this system burns out. I'm going to restart top to bottom. What kind of OC gains do you get with the 6700 with its hat off?

i did not follow your thread from the start but if the reason is to upgrade from your current cpu, then any of the choices are good upgrades. saving a $100 was a bonus.

is it to replace the i5? why?

Just to keep things fresh. Give the 980ti a little more help. Gain some physics power. I know the 5820k is better but not by a ton. Lastly to make the PC look better inside and out. I know I didn't gain a whole ton as far as gaming but i will be nice to have less frame drops. The 2500k was a beast for me since jan 2011. Being clocked at 4.8 stable all the way till late 2013. Had to clock down to 4.6 to be stable and just this year it will only hold at 4.5. It's still a beast no doubt. It was just time for a refresh for me.

Thanks for the Rep. Yeah nothings installed yet. Waiting on the ram to get here. I will take some numbers on some current games and let you guys know what I find. Max frames propbably won't change much. It's just a matter of staying in that range longer is what I was after. Plus newer games where a lot of physics happen on screen. The 2500k could get tripped up a bit. I'm hoping this little guy will fix up some of that.

haha I've been down that SLI road. Not doing it again. Maybe if it gets better with dx12. maybe... seems like I always had issues with my 780's in SLI. That's why I went with the 980ti. One card and no issues.
