Help me buy a new card!

Hey all,

Have not been following graphics cards or hardware for a while. Still sitting on my GTX680. When's a good time to buy a new graphics card/monitor?

I want to get in on the 4k + Gsync action. Money is no object as I have a rather large coupon so I'm not paying for it myself.

Is there something coming out really soon that is worth waiting for? Or is now an ok time to buy something?

Also, can you guys recommend monitors? Thinking of either getting a big 27' 4k monitor, one of those curved ones, or 3 slightly smaller monitors and running them in "eyefinity' or whatever it's called.

THANKS!

Money no object I'd go 980Ti, sure the titan technically has more cores and vRAM but in practice the 980Ti clocks higher due to custom pcb.

The smart time to upgrade would be when Pascal hits. NOt sure when, but, if you can deal with waiting another 6 months that would be a better time frame.

If not, then for single card I'd go 980 ti. If wanting sli I'd go Titan x.

Not sure off hand of the current 4k gsync monitors. The only one I know of is that Acer 28" TN. Not one I'd get myself.

For UW, Acer has one out right now. I think Asus is also working on putting one out.

Even if you go 980 ti or titan x 4k would be one hell of a res to push in AAA games.

Is pascal just faster or does it introduce new features/functionality that the current gen doesn't?

There will be a die shrink and newer/faster HBM memory. Not super into the tech, but, it means they can pack more on the die and have a massive memory bandwidth increase to go with it. It should make for highly superior gpu's. I did read that only the higher end cards are expected to get the HBM memory though.

Someone else with more knowledge can fill you in on the details.
