[Gamespot] Blizzard Will No Longer Report World of Warcraft Subscriber Numbers.

Blizzard Entertainment typically announces World of Warcraft subscriber numbers every three months in its quarterly earnings report, but that's coming to an end. The company has confirmed that this week's announcement of 5.5 million subscribers is the last time the company plans to divulge those numbers.

I don't know about anyone else but this smacks of Damage control.

End of '14 : 10 Mill subs
March '15 : 7.1 Mill
June '15 : 5.6 Mill
Sept '15 : 5.5 Mill

Don't worry though! There will be a Warcraft movie, apparently set before WoW, Before Warcraft 3 .. featuring Humans and Orcs!

No Taurens no deal Bliz ! tongue.gif

Hopefully this is the start of WoW's real retirement.

It was a great run, but they all end.

I'd love to see WoW finally "die". It has been the single largest cause of stagnation and regression in the MMO scene since its inception.

Too bad gaming as a whole has since succumb to the same fate. It may be too late to reverse the damage now.

We'll probably see a Warcraft 4 that's more appealing to casuals with a slower pace while reamining viable on the esports scene - then a WoW2 or something.

WoW is dying and it's dying becasue Blizzard lost touch with their fans and resorted to things such a Cat. ruining the lore and PANDAS.

Right now they're trying to salvage the franchise.

How many of those accounts are farming/botting accounts? lol

When the news isn't looking good, stop reporting. Seems to be an easy solution.

Because the game is a pile of garbage now. After 10 years it's time to move on, especially with what they've done to the game. TBH anyone still playing is just clinging to what they used to enjoy. Game now seems to be composed of people playing Pokemon, only raiding to complete raid metas while the expansion is current, people waiting for a higher expansion to clear old content, and people farming old content in general, and people wanting Feats of Strength, which they screwed up as if you aren't going to full clear that content before a new tier is out, why even bother.

Subs never even came close to this low before, the last time they were, it was the highest they had ever been and it was back in classic.

I say this as someone that played from a few months after release until last week and that also ranked, had some top 200 kills, was in a guild that opened the gates of AQ, and actually downed some bosses in Naxx 40 during classic on a Paladin, and I honestly should have quit years ago.

Subs will pick up for Legion, but this game is far past its prime.

Would you not consider EQ to be in retirement? Unless there has been a growth in player count for some reason. Last time I looked at it years ago, it was comfortably retired.

You have to remember, there is a difference between retirement and dead. That is especially important to remember for the older people in your life!

Many mmo's still go with less than 1 mil subs and stay profitable, 5.5 mil is still the most on the market atm. They will be fine, especially after the xpac hits a few million will come back.
