[Gamespot] Blizzard Will No Longer Report World of Warcraft Subscriber Numbers. - Page 2

I tried it for about six months, made it my main and tried to full emerge myself in it. I found some parts pretty neat, lots repetitive and parts puzzling to the point of frustrating. It was the best game I ever played with 3d vision to this day, jaw dropping honesty. The constant breaking 3d with updates was a big reason I stopped playing, it's hard to go back to 2d after seeing it in 3d. Met the odd cool peep but most were ...... not nice. My youngest took to it like it was life and eventually I ended my subscription because of her addiction and constant pestering to play lol.

I'm not sure how you blame stagnation in the MMO scene on wow. Games have tried to do it different, better and the same and have just failed. Doesn't seem to me like wow help the genre back unless we are all banking on Blizzard to move it forward. Clearly blizzard set the bar and myself like most people think blizzard hasn't kept wow on that bar over the past few xpacs but I don't get how we blame the entire genre on wow.

Additionally as others have said I don't see it going anywhere. As long as operating costs for the game are lower than what they bring in I don't see it going anywhere. I mean why would you stop something that makes money and I doubt they need nearly as many subs as they have to do that. I would also like to know how they count the wow token. The wow token should count as a monthly sub. So I don't know if that figure they have now includes those.

End of '14 : 10 Mill subs
March '15 : 7.1 Mill
June '15 : 5.6 Mill
Sept '15 : 5.5 Mill

Don't worry though! There will be a Warcraft movie, apparently set before WoW, Before Warcraft 3 .. featuring Humans and Orcs!

No Taurens no deal Bliz ! tongue.gif

It may not be damage control as much as it is to quiet those who insist the sky is falling. Everquest has been going for 16-ish years or so. The sky was going to fall every other week according to the rabble. World of Warcraft will most likely be around for a while, but with a more settled population number. For people like me who started playing original Warcraft, anything passed Warcraft II is an abomination anyway. Cow people? Freaking Kung-Fu Pandas? wth.gif Space goats?

Makes sense to not release them if it's only negative publicity for yourself. The bottom line is enough for quarterly earnings.

Problem for them is their competition, Guild Wars 2.

They just hit 5 million sales, and if the WoW sub numbers have continued to fall, they will probably already have surpassed them in user count. (Though it would be nice to know the "active" account numbers, accounts with 1 login within 1 month)

When the news isn't looking good, stop reporting. Seems to be an easy solution.

IIRC middle of November is when a lot of the HonorBuddy 6 month suspensions are finished (was a huge ban wave half a year ago). They got 11 of my WoD accounts back then frown.gif Eager to see if I still have all the gold on them so I can dump it ASAP.

Textbook damage control, they don't people to laugh as their numbers sink into the abyss they've created.

I am a HUGE fan of Warcraft, and my heart aches for what they've done to the game.

Hang on, are you saying they're no longer permabanning botters?

jarane, sta ima?

I'd really like to see if they count suspended accounts as active or inactive since I'm sure a lot of people gave up after the massive ban wave. If they're counted as active, then all of those (who don't resub) go inactive the middle of this month and tank their numbers.
