Even if you go by same people on that forum screaming and making polls you won't get enough accounts to even warrant 1 physical server cost. Not to mention the rest of the work.

Not posting in public their numbers is good idea. Some people quit because of that alone. On a basis that if dropped from 10 mil to 7 it is dead now, terrible game qq.

Also, don't worry, they will post numbers if legion pulls 10mil or something like that.

However I'm reading this announcement as: we're trying to hype legion, but it'll be even worse than draenor and we are not sorry. We will think of some bs excuse and blame it on players.

I actually attend the investor meetings...so, I don't really care about polls but, I was hardcore in WoW up to TBC. 2003+, Alpha'd/Beta'd - The whole 9. Every single hardcore/semi-hardcore player I've ever met has said, straight up, put up a classic server and we'll be back. Regardless of what the WoW forums claim, if you were to do a classic server right, the draw would be incredible.

You wouldn't be able to hold them on 1 server. Last calculation, by the poll Blizzard actually took in 2013, they'd need basically 2, physical racks which amounts to 4 servers.

Also - WoW's population is actually just south of 5.5m right now...Not 7; 5.5. - The subscriber base is hemorrhaging terribly...WoD was incredibly lackluster - Denied even the casuals end-game content and just didn't cut it.

WoW doesn't get the "fist bumps" it used to from expansions anymore - New expansions simply stop people from LEAVING...it's an attempt to bandage the wound without stitching it. - Always has been.

While LoD is attempting to fix that, it won't address the problem which, is at it's core WoW. The original story-line up to WoTLK is awesome...The content is extraordinary - There's a reason WHY this entire subject-line keeps being brought up...That content pushed WOW to it's peak.

If reviving that content brings back 4 servers (Roughly 2.5m users) than by all means, you've accomplished your goal but, at this point, even if it brought back 1m users, it'd be a win, in and of itself.

Look at Nostrils (I know thats not the real name lol) that server had 6k people when it launched and it was private. I can only imagine what a blizzard run server would do, Hell I'd play it for sure. I still want to know if Tokens are counted in subscriber numbers. My guess is no but I have yet to be able to figure that out.

I'm not sure, actually - I'll ask.

I believe they are because, they counted active subs but, that's a good question.

If Blizzard actually did the classic server, right - IE, kept all races/classes they currently have and just bring the game back to Vanilla, push each expansion by population vote, 2+ months per...Keep all of the features etc...I guarantee you, you'd see at least a million users return.

Everquest, when they pushed classics for the first time, their game pop was at about 1m users - They saw a bump of 400k, had to open a second server. Attribute that to WoW with how popular the game was up to WOTLK and you've got a serious contender. **Forgot to add, lower the raid requirements down to 10 users - BOOM.

I'll tell you straight up, I'd go back in a heartbeat. Ahn'Qiraj - Onyxia? Molten core? Oh hell yes. Shut up and take my money.

Personally, im fine with the way WoW is now. I believe bc/wotlk is the past and should stay the past. And ive played since vanilla and ive always been top 50 us/2200 plus in arenas. Every expac has had things ive liked and disliked, but i think overall the game has done well. WoW is the main cause of stagnation in the mmo market so atleast if it loses some players it will give games like GW2 more players.

I'm not sure if two 42U racks would even be enough for 2.5m users. At its prime of 12m subscriptions during Wrath of the Lich King, there were some 400+ US and EU realms. I don't recall exactly if that number included the Chinese region as WoW was (probably still is) licensed to a third party (NetEase) where subscriptions weren't popular. Still, if you have half of that 12m subscription base that's 6 million split over 400+ US/EU realms. Even going by numbers of 1.5m Q1 05 and 6m Q1 06: http://www.statista.com/statistics/276601/number-of-world-of-warcraft-subscribers-by-quarter/ and comparing it to the amount of realms at the time: http://wowwiki.wikia.com/wiki/Timeline_of_the_creation_of_US_realms they go from ~90 in 2005 to ~120 in 2006 and that's just for the US side. Even so, there isn't a one to one relationship between "realm:server", it's more so "one realm:many blades" where a blade hosts part of a realm such as an entire continent, a subset of that such as a major city, battlegrounds for that realm (no cross-realm BGs back then), instances for that realm (same thing), etc. So at least if one goes down, you don't lose the entire realm (e.g. "World server is down" for any characters in X location but alts in Y location are playable). Even a year before Burning Crusade was released, Blizzard bought 1500 servers for WoW: http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=576 I'm sure they could afford implementing classic servers but they've been really reluctant to.

Excellent point. thumb.gif

I'm actually not in the "know" of users per, etc but, interestingly enough when you do the math, you could almost segregate additional rack space and simply re-aim it's usage towards classic servers - Could even split it off of the main and just limit it...Done deal.

So, I asked and apparently, yes. Active subs are active, period, via by token or not.

I actually went and looked at my account page and I used to think the token had status as inactive or no subscription but when I saw Active I figured your answer would be that. But thanks for checking thumb.gif
